This stunning dog is Genie, and she's a 40kg Tibetan Mastiff. Genie truly is a wonderful dog; she's a big, fluffy girl and has the most amazing temperament. She has a gentle nature and is great with kids, other animals and super friendly with other dogs. Genie will be your devoted companion: sitting placidly at the coffee shop with you, tick. Following you everywhere, tick. Great in the car, tick. Walking nicely on the lead - tick. Providing therapy through gentle grooming of her gorgeous coat - tick. You cannot help but fall in love with this girl. Before you jump to apply however, please note that this breed will not suit every home, and her owner needs to be either experienced with Tibetan Mastiffs or be willing to research the breed, as they have quite specific personalities and therefore specific requirements to enable them to thrive. Applicants will need to understand what the breed was bred for; which is essentially to guard their property.
Genie is looking for a home where she'll have company the majority of the time. If left for a few hours without people she will get frustrated (even if she has another dog for company). She will become destructive inside the house if left inside, or wiggle out of the smallest space or jump the highest fence to find you. She becomes very bonded to 'her' people and children (as this is her job). Genie won't be happy in a yard with colorbond fencing that she can't see out of. These dogs like to be able to see all the way around them so that they can keep a look out and 'protect' their family from anything approaching (don't worry though: Genie doesn't have a mean bone in her body)!
Because of her thick, snow-proof, double coat she will need a home happy to have her inside with air-conditioning or fans, as she will suffer outside in the heat. Tibetan Mastiffs have particular grooming and trimming needs and the cost of this must be considered when adopting one.
If you are home lots, have the right fencing/yard and are confident that you understand her needs, Genie will make the most fantastic companion. Please don't apply just because you think she is cute or will look good on your pictures or posts. This is a special dog, extremely easygoing but with grooming, temperament and temperature requirements that must be met to keep her healthy and happy.
If you'd like Genie in your life please apply! Don't forget to include what experience with the Tibetan Mastiff breed or similar breeds you've had - we look forward to finding gorgeous Genie her new family!
