About Sandy (On Trial)
Sandy went on trial on 8/8/11. Please consider our other dogs at www. Dogrescuenewcastle. Com. Au such as scottie and miss millie. . . Sandy is our special little boy with 3 legs. He's a 4yo maltese x shih tzu. He had to have a hind leg amputated after being hit by a car but is fully recovered and running around back to normal. This gorgeous dog has had a rough trot. At 1yo he was found abandoned at a pound and rescued by dog rescue newcastle. He got adopted and enjoyed his new home for 2 years then one day he decided to go for a walk without his owner and when he was found he had a terrible injury to his right, hind leg. He was surrendered back to dog rescue newcastle. Our vet deemed it necessary to amputate the leg. He is now running around on three legs and is not in any pain and will lead a normal, active life. . . Sandy is a very affectionate dog who loves to sit at your feet or on your lap. He appears not to have an aggressive bone in his body and throughout his treatment he quietly co-operated with all who handled him. He is house trained, answers to his name and comes when called. He is friendly and playful with our other two dogs. He likes a game of fetch and tug-of-war. Sandy has a silky smooth coat which is mainly white with some "sandy" patches, which is low shedding and requires a bit of brushing and the occasional trim. He weighs 8. 5kgs. . . . Sandy is very active and seems not to be bothered by his missing leg. He enjoys the rough and tumble of play with our dog and walks the full distance without any problem when we walk the dogs together. Sandy is a little shy of traffic - probably as a result of his accident. He tends to pull on the lead when walking but we are training him to walk beside us. . . . He is good with children or older people. He seems to prefer women but this could be because his previous owner was an elderly lady. He may prove to be protective as he lets us know if there is anyone passing our gate and if we stop to talk to someone he barks at them until we "introduce" them. He then is quite friendly so he will probably make a good watch dog. . . . Sandy sleeps quietly in the laundry with the other dogs. A doggy door would be ideal for him. I think he doesn't like being alone and would need to go to a home with either another friendly dog for company or where someone is home most of the time, such as a retired couple or individual. Sandy is just darling and this very special little man will make a delightful addition to any family, bringing lots of love and laughter. *** please see more photos of sandy at
