Meet Oreo,
Oreo is a handsome boy with that unmistakable husky charm and personality! Oreo is best suited to experienced dog owners, particularly those familiar with the independent and sometimes stubborn nature of the breed. True to his husky roots, he has a mind of his own and isn’t afraid to show it, but that’s all part of his unique appeal. He is adaptable and would be fine living in any household environment and would be a great match for active people/families yet his exercise needs are not demanding at all!
Oreo is a gentle and sensitive soul who can be a little nervous at times, especially in new environments or around new people. Once he’s comfortable, his curious and playful side shines through, and you’ll see a dog who enjoys exploring, having a bit of fun, and occasionally deciding that today is a “lazy day.”
He’s affectionate in his own quiet way — he might not always seek out cuddles, but he’ll happily spend time near you once trust is built. Oreo is a calm, happy boy who will thrive in a home that respects his independence while providing the reassurance and patience he needs to settle in and feel secure.
If you appreciate a dog with character, confidence, and a little bit of signature husky sass, Oreo might just be the one for you.
Ideal Home: Oreo is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard, and high secure fencing.
Family: Oreo would be best suited to a home with dog-savvy children aged 10 years and older, as he can sometimes show signs of discomfort, especially when he doesn't know you. He also has his own set of unique mannerisms.
Oreo is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is independent and able to spend time in the yard on his own, but on occasion would also like to be inside with his new family.
Furry Friends: Oreo is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment - he can be vocal, which is to be expected with a husky, but is able to play and interact. Some training for manners and socialisation would do wonders for Oreo - however his play style and vocalisation may be too much for other dogs and they may be selective when it comes to them playing with him.
Oreo is not suitable to live with cats/pocket pets.
Training & Development: Oreo would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. He is mild mannered and rarely (if ever) jumps on you. Group classes would also be good, as he is dog social these classes with ensure that he continues to develop his social skills and manners with other dogs.
Oreo knows his name and he also knows commands such as sit and drop. Oreo also appears to be toilet trained from what we have observed.
He is food motivated - but the type of treat is important to him. Having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would still be a good idea. When he does take treats, he is gentle when doing so.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Oreo has low to mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep him healthy and content. Due to his breed, exercise first thing in the morning or later in the evening would be ideal to avoid heat stress - especially in warmer months. Oreo shows a little interest in playing with toys, but he prefers going for walks and personal play or time spent with his handlers.
Oreo walks well on lead with minimal pulling. He is best to be walked on either a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Oreo is independent, a little stubborn, but full of character. He’s gentle, sensitive, and can be shy at first, but once comfortable his curious and playful side shines through. Oreo can have his lazy moments and prefers to do things on his own terms, yet he’s also affectionate in his own quiet way. Oreo will thrive in a patient home that lets him be his confident, happy self.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
