About Bernie
Bernie is calm, affectionate, and full of personality. He’s the kind of dog who greets each day with quiet happiness, who loves the simple pleasures: a soft bed, a car ride with the window down, and a warm human hand resting on his head.
What's most special about Bernie is the bond he builds with his humans. Once he trusts you, he’s deeply loyal and connected, the sort of companion who will look at you like you’re his whole world.
Personality & Daily Life
Bernie’s foster carer calls him an easy-going, goofy angel. He’s happiest with a gentle daily routine: one long walk or two short ones, plenty of nap time (ideally with his head on a pillow, like a human!), and a few quiet moments of affection throughout the day.
He loves car rides and the beach, and has even discovered a newfound love of the water. Around the house, he’s calm and well-mannered. He enjoys enrichment toys and quietly settles into his crate at night, sleeping soundly until morning.
Bernie’s playful side shines when he’s relaxed, he knows several commands, can catch treats in midair, and will nudge you with his paw if you dare stop patting him too soon.
Ideal Home
Bernie is looking for a calm, understanding home where he can be the only dog.
He would love someone who’s home more often than not, as he feels most comfortable when his people are nearby. A small backyard to sunbake in would be wonderful, but he’d also thrive in an apartment with regular walks and midday toilet breaks.
Bernie doesn’t need an experienced adopter, just someone kind, patient, and willing to meet him where he’s at. He rewards love with love, and for the right person, he’ll be an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion.
What Makes Bernie Special
Bernie isn’t just a dog who’s come a long way, he’s a dog who makes every bit of effort worth it. Watching him grow from a nervous boy into a relaxed, happy soul has been a joy for his carers, and he’ll bring that same joy to his forever family.
He’s gentle, affectionate, and genuinely easy to live with. Once he feels safe, he’s a delight. Funny, expressive, and loving. He’s the perfect match for someone looking for a companion to share a quiet, comfortable life with, someone who appreciates a soft nudge, a silly grin, and the quiet loyalty of a dog who truly adores his person.

Adoption details
STEP 1 – ENQUIRE & EOI FORM:
greytgreys.org/adopt/apply
If the greyhound you have applied for is unavailable or unsuitable, we can match you with a suitable greyhound. We may have a hound in foster care who might be well suited to your family.
STEP 2 – LET'S CHAT:
We'll phone you to discuss suitability, clarify any points of your application and chat process and next steps.
STEP 3 – HOUSE CHECK & MEET + GREET:
We'll come to you! The meet + greet is conducted at the same time that a house check is carried out. The meet + greet is the day that your newly adopted greyhound will be able to stay on with you.
Our adoption fee is $375.00 and must be paid before the meet + greet, and prior to starting your 3 week trial. Support from our team is freely available. If you have any issues, we urge you to contact us to try and work through them, as all rescue greyhounds have some period of adjustment.
If after the 3 week trial, you feel that you need to return the greyhound, we will refund your adoption fee (less a $50 administration fee), upon return of the dog and all paperwork and other items that the dog was adopted with.
All of our hounds are adopted out with the following:
> Collar, lead & coat
> Certificate of sterilisation & vaccination
> Flea & worm treated
> Care information for your newly adopted greyhound
> Access to our private Facebook page for foster carers, volunteers and adopters of our hounds. A community with invaluable advice and support!
