If happiness had four legs and a wagging tail, it would look just like Malosi!
Malosi is always happy and smiling – whether he’s having a bath, being caught cheekily doing something that he shouldn’t, or snoozing in the sun. His tail rarely stops wagging.
The name Malosi comes from the Samoan language, Malosi meaning "Strength". Strength and resilience is what this boy has in spades.
Malosi is still young, and at this age has a gentle and sensitive soul. All he wants is to please, to trust, and to be close to his people.
Malosi is social and friendly and greets everyone he meets with enthusiasm. In his foster home Malosi enjoys being a part of the family and has settled in seamlessly.
Malosi has a beautifully balanced temperament. He’s active when his foster family are active and calm when they are calm. That makes him a great match for many households.
Malosi is smart and quick to learn, so he’ll thrive with someone who will engage with him and continue with his training. Obedience, agility, herding, and scent work are all activities that he would excel at.
Like many young Kelpies, Malosi is still learning his puppy manners. He occasionally shows some gentle mouthing, especially during play, so he’d be best suited to a home with older dog-savvy children who understand how to interact calmly with dogs. Also, as a working breed, Malosi does have natural herding instincts. This has shown up in his play style where he will nip or “herd” the resident dog during play. Therefore, any doggie playmates must be confident, social, and able to handle that classic Kelpie enthusiasm. With continued positive training and guidance, Malosi will learn to moderate his play and read other dogs’ signals. With that support, he’ll blossom into an exceptional lifelong companion.
Malosi may be well suited as the only dog in the home, if there is someone around most of the time. In foster care he has been very comfortable sharing his space with the happy-go-lucky, energetic, resident dog who can control Malosi’s play style.
Malosi is toilet trained, crate trained (he sleeps soundly for 10 hours in his crate each night) and walks well on the lead. He enjoys food and is happy to share treats and his food bowl with the resident dog. He loves toys and likes to choose his own from the toy box, depending on his mood at the time.
Being a smaller Kelpie, Malosi is a delight to have around. He’s light and quiet on his feet, he’s easy to lift (20kg), to bathe, and to travel with. At any time, especially at the end of the day, he’s soft, gentle, and perfect to cuddle. And cuddling in your lap is one of his most favourite things to do.
So, if you’ve been waiting for a handsome, smart, and well-balanced dog who radiates joy, loyalty, and love, Malosi could be the one. Come meet him and be prepared to fall in love.
