About Polly
Hello, I’m Polly and I’d love to tell you a bit about me.
Everyone who meets me calls me a good girl, and I really do try my very best to live up to that. I’ve been staying with a lovely foster family, and while I may sometimes get a bit too interested in the cat when we’re outside, I’m on my best behaviour indoors.
I walk nicely on a lead once I get going, but at first I can be a little unsure – I just need a gentle voice and a bit of encouragement. Big cars are a bit tricky for me to climb into, so something lower or mid-height would make life a little easier.
I’m not fussy with food at all and I love treats! I’ve already learnt to sit and patiently wait until I’m told I can have them – I’m a clever girl and I pick things up quickly.
When the house was full of kids during the school holidays, I thought it was the best thing ever – I loved all the attention and cuddles.
I did grow up with another big male dog and we got along really well (even if he was a bit much sometimes!). In my foster home now, we have visiting dogs from time to time. I’m polite with them, but I do prefer when it’s just me and my people again.
I love my foster mum very much. I’ve hopped up on the bed a few times to be close to her, but I’m just as happy sleeping beside her on my own bed. I follow her everywhere – I suppose that’s my way of protecting her – though I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to thunder and storms.
I enjoy playing ball and have a whole box of toys: chewy ones, squeaky ones, and soft ones too. I’m fully toilet trained, have lovely manners, and I even talk to you! I make a funny little “woo” sound – some people might think I’m growling, but really, I’m just trying to have a conversation.
I also want to be honest and tell you that I tested a mild positive for heartworm. GPAWS has already covered the cost to begin treatment, and I’m doing really well. I will just need my new family to continue giving me monthly all-wormer medication (the good quality ones that cover heartworm, fleas and intestinal worms) and be extra vigilant to make sure I never get re-infected.
I’ve got a big heart, a gentle soul, and I’m ready to find a family of my very own – one who will love me as much as I’ll love them.-
