Meet Archie,
Archie is the kind of dog who makes life just a little bit brighter. He’s gentle, friendly, and full of personality — the perfect mix of calm and playful! Archie would suit just about any household, from first-time dog owners to families who enjoy getting out and about. He loves his walks and a bit of outdoor fun, but his exercise needs aren’t demanding — he’s just as happy to chill out and watch the world go by.
This smart and confident boy gets along beautifully with other dogs and people. He’s polite, mild-mannered, and easy to have around. Archie can have his independent moments (he likes to do things his own way sometimes!), but that only adds to his charm.
If you’re after a well-rounded dog who’s social, affectionate, and always up for a bit of fun, Archie might just be your pawfect match.
Ideal Home: Archie is suitable to live in a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard, and high secure fencing.
Family: Archie is open to meet kids of any age. He is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is able to spend time in the yard on his own, but on occasion would also like to be inside with his new family, too.
Furry Friends: Archie is dog social and is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment he had a loose body. Play bows were exchanged and he got so excited to make friends that he pawed playfully at the other dog. He was good with other dogs who were high energy as he was able to keep up, but also good with dogs where were less energetic. He can vocalise a little when he is ignored but will seek validation from his handler if this happens. He happy in the company of another dog, or with out. He does need to work on his manners though, so group classes should be considered.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure if Archie would be suitable to live with cats and/or pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Archie would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. He is mild mannered and rarely, if at all, will jump on you. Group classes would also be beneficial for Archie - although he is dog social he does need to learn some manners when interacting with other dogs.
With additional training and time to settle into a new routine, Archie is the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Archie knows his name, in addition he also knows commands such as sit and down.
He is food motivated (sometimes), so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would still be an excellent idea. Archie is also gentle when taking treats from you.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Archie has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep him happy and healthy. Archie doesn't really play with toys (from what we have seen), he prefers to go for walks, meet up with other dogs for social time or simply likes being near you and learning new things.
Archie walks well on lead with minimal pulling - he will only pull towards a point of interest. He is best to be walked on a harness as this is what he is used to.
Staff Comments: Archie is a gentle, happy, and friendly boy who loves his walks, meeting new people, and exploring the world around him. He’s adaptable and would fit right into just about any home. Mild-mannered, smart, and a little cheeky at times, Archie is the perfect mix of playful and laid-back, and he’ll win you over with his sweet nature and curious personality.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
