Peppermint Cream has had a hard start to life. Rescued from a breeder situation, if he had any human contact it was minimal as he was terrified of people when he came into care. After two weeks in his current foster home, he has learned how to play with the resident Cav poodle and another foster Matlese cross which stayed for 5 days. He will also now take a treat from our hand but any sudden movement and he is out of there.
We have managed to give Peppermint Cream some pats and scratches but it is on his terms at the moment, but we don't mind because it's another small step forward. His carer has taken him into the front yard on a lead and just sat with him to try and get him used to new smells and sounds. Whilst he won't walk on the lead, each time he seems to settle quicker and is using his nose to sniff out new things.
He spends time on our deck looking in through the glass door at what is going on inside, and you can see he wants to be a part of it but is still uncertain what he should do. He comes inside of an evening and sits in his bed or on the couch whilst we are watching the television and sleeps inside in his bed. As he knows how to use the doggy door, we haven't had any accidents inside either overnight or when we have been away from home. Peppermint Cream does get a bit vocal when we leave and come home, but he settles quickly.
We have decided that it is time for Peppermint Cream to find his forever home, rather than spending more time in care and then have to unsettle him in the future.
Peppermint Cream's new home must have a resident dog so he can continue to learn and take his cues from, and someone home more often than not. He is not going to be a dog you can bring home, pat or cuddle, or take out on walks for a while. You will spend time coexisting until he is ready for touch.
With lots of patience, love and time Peppermint Cream will reward you with his trust. Because of his uncertainty around people and unfamiliar noises, young children would probably be too much for him with their running about and sudden noises.
