About Sam
Gentle | Loyal | Sweet-tempered | Great with kids & other dogs
If you’re searching for a gentle, sweet-natured and utterly charming older dog, meet Sam — a handsome, long-haired Border Collie born 12 March 2016.
We don’t know how Sam found himself in the pound, but we’re confident it was through no fault of his own. He presents as a dog who has been well cared for and much loved.
Temperament-wise, Sam is an absolute darling — gentle, people-focused, engaging, and beautifully mannered. He recently charmed everyone at the vet clinic with his calm behaviour and winning smile (it’s hard not to fall in love with him).
Sam weighs 18.4 kg, is house-trained, and happily sleeps inside in his own bed through the night.
Despite being nine years young, he’s full of life — he runs like the wind, loves ball games, retrieves enthusiastically, and has a favourite rope toy. A game of fetch in the backyard is the perfect way for Sam to end his day.
He’s also a fantastic traveller, calm and content in the car and non-reactive to dogs passing by.
Sam has excellent recall, provided he isn’t distracted by a kangaroo or other tempting wildlife. He is fascinated by cows and horses, so he’s not suited to farm life.
He is great with children and gets along well with other dogs. He hasn’t been tested with cats.
He would thrive in an active family home, ideally with children and other active dogs. He’s still very much a Border Collie at heart and needs daily exercise, mental stimulation and companionship to feel content. Secure fencing is essential to keep him safe, and he would love to be treated as a true member of the family.
In return, Sam will reward you with unwavering loyalty, affection, and love for the rest of his days.
