About Kahuna
Update - We have reopened applications for Kahuna - please note Kahuna is not a dog that wants to go on hikes, dog parks, and be out and about the center of attention with crowds.
Kahuna also needs a quiet home preferably with no young children - he is just more comfortable with older kids.
Are you looking for a gentle, loving, cuddle companion who will shower you with love and affection?
Hi, my name is Kahuna, and I am a 5 year, and 3-month-old Toy Poodle and I am looking for my fur-ever family.
I came into care as a retired Ex breeding dog, and the rescue has made sure that my vet work is done – I am now desexed and had some dental done so now I am ready to begin the search for my forever home.
My idea of the perfect day involves hanging out with my humans all day. I’ll lay at your feet while you work from home, snuggle on your lap while you watch TV at night, and cuddle up next to you while you sleep.
I enjoy playing with my foster dog siblings in short bursts each morning, but other than that, I am so happy to just be around my humans who love me, so I don’t need to have other dogs in my new family. I would love to be the center of your attention.
I am very patient and gentle with my foster family’s children (aged 6, 8 and 10), however I am a timid little boy and can startle easily so would prefer to join a family with either older children or just adults.
I’d love a family who will spend time with me each day – I don’t want to be home alone all day everyday by myself. Maybe you work from home, maybe you’re retired, or maybe you just enjoy spending more time at home than going out. The company of the ones who love me is the best thing in my world.
At nighttime, I like to sleep in my foster parent’s bedroom. I usually sleep on a dog bed next to my foster mum's side of the bed. I sleep soundly throughout the night and am overnight toilet trained, and I love to wake up my foster parents each morning for cuddles in bed with them.
When my foster family goes out, I prefer to be left inside the house. This is where I feel safest and most comfortable. I can be trusted in the house alone – I have never chewed any of my foster family’s belongings. I am toilet trained and only have the occasional accident if I can’t get outside.
I weigh 6 kilograms and enjoy a healthy diet of a variety of foods.
I do have a luxating patella in my back left leg – this is often (but not always) noticeable if I’m running around outside and it looks like my leg is lifted up – the vets have advised it’s not a grade that does requiring surgery at this stage
I have not been tested on cats.
I did come into care with a pretty matted coat so the rescue had a nice grooming lady shave me so that my fur would have a chance to regrow and be maintained – I do have a coat that requires regular grooming so please make sure you remember that is a lifetime of grooming but my foster mum says it's worth it as I look so cute when groomed.
If you are patient and loving with me as I settle into another new home, then I promise I will repay you with so much love and affection that we will be best friends forever.

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption - each bio will state if available for adoption - please check before applying.
AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
