About Penny
Please meet Penny, a fine-looking purebred Maremma, whose foster mum describes her as "an absolute angel".
Penny was born on 11 September 2022 and weighs about 35 kgs.
Gentle and quiet, this sweet girl has a relaxed and calm nature. She doesn't like noise and is not a barker, which is a little unusual for a Maremma.
She enjoys a walk, but like most Maremmas, she's an independent thinker and the idea of walking nicely by your side is not Penny's style. Penny's more of a "stop and sniff and let's see what's over there" kinda girl.
Penny thrives on human companionship, making her an ideal dog for a family with older children or a retired couple or singleton.
Her double-coat coat requires regular brushing to keep it beautiful and she sheds heavily during spring and autumn.
True to her breed, Penny is innately loyal, nurturing and protective. Although initially reserved, her trust will build steadily and with love, patience and understanding, will blossom into unbreakable affection and loyalty towards her family, while maintaining a natural aloofness to strangers.
Alert and ever-conscious of her surroundings, Penny is an excellent watchdog, but is in no way aggressive and will only bark when it's appropriate to do so.
Penny is not suited for working roles. She would be content in a home where she's regarded as an integral member of the family.
She gets on well with male and female dogs, but has had no exposure to cats since being in care.
Her ideal home will have a very spacious backyard with extra good fencing to keep her safe. Maremmas can be skilled fence jumpers, but once they bond with their family, they are unlikely to leave their home.
If you're ready to welcome this gentle girl into your life, please contact us today by completing the online adoption application at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
Penny was desexed in September 2025.
