About Cathy
If you’re looking for a walking buddy, Cathy is your girl! In her foster home she gets at least one 5km stroll a day, but will happily take another if it is on offer, she just loves to be out enjoying herself at any opportunity. She is confident and walks well on lead, doesn’t pull or zoom around. Other than her time outdoors, she’s very well mannered inside the home and loves a snooze in a comfy corner. A shadow, but not in an obtrusive way, Cathy loves to have a bed nearby to whatever you are doing so she can keep watch. Her companionship is gentle and polite, but she won’t hesitate to keep you on schedule when it is meal time!
Cathy is eager to learn, especially if scotch finger biscuits (her favourite) are involved. She knows cues like “out the kitchen” and “in your bed” and can even do “stay” and “wees” - she hasn’t yet mastered the art of getting in and out of the car though so will need a little boost and is not a big fan of stairs so would prefer a home that is single level.
Showing aptitude for a role as a snootervisor, Cathy has accompanied both her fosters to work and was declared a gold star employee. Initially taking some time to settle into a new environment, she quickly warmed up thanks to all the pats and attention on offer. It was reported that she was quite popular and received numerous compliments for her beautiful demeanour, personality, and appearance. With no sleep startle or resource issues, and a love of every new human she meets, Cathy is a dream addition to any workplace. If you need to head to the office alone though, don’t worry, Cathy will also happily snooze the day away at home, and has been left up to eight hours with access to toilet outdoors. So long as she’s had an opportunity to really stretch her legs before you go, she doesn’t mind staying behind to catch up on her naps.
Cathy has one vice, and it’s her level of excitement with small dogs. Not quite sure what they are yet, she is definitely sure they look fun to chase, we recommend that she not have close contact with any small animals, especially off lead. Although she is able to walk by them (and even greet) on lead, but she does whine and show fixation and rude behaviours that may frighten the small dogs - so it is best to give them a wide berth and continue to teach her how to be calm and polite.
The perfect mix of outdoor explorer and couch potato, Cathy would suit a variety of home environments and lifestyles. She really doesn’t ask for much, just all the love you have to give, and a couple of shortbread bikkies now and then.
Would prefer humans with hybrid working hours, can do 8 hours home alone (with access to toilet)

Thinking about adopting?
We’d love to help you find your greyhound match!
To get started, we’ll ask for a bit of information about your home and lifestyle on our application form. This helps us make sure we match you with a dog that suits your household and sets both of you up for success.
Many greyhounds come from racing kennels where they’re used to having other dogs around. Some can struggle being left completely alone, which can lead to signs of separation anxiety like barking or chewing.
Because of this, we usually look to rehome greyhounds into homes where they’ll have company - either human or canine - and not be left alone for more than four hours on a regular basis. If that’s not your setup right now, don’t worry as we’re happy to chat about options such as dog walkers, doggy daycare, or taking your greyhound to work.
Our Adoption Checklist:
To be considered for adoption, we ask that you have:
A secure, fully fenced yard (minimum height around hip height)
A home where the dog is allowed to sleep inside at night
A routine that doesn’t leave the dog home alone regularly for long periods (more than 4 hours) without people or another dog for company
If you’re not sure whether you tick every box, please still apply! We’re happy to have a conversation and see if we have a greyhound who might be the right fit.
Please fill in as much detail as you can as there’s no word limit on any question.
