About Elwood
With his gorgeous face and adorably styled flyaway ears, the only thing more irresistible than Elwood’s outsides, are his practically perfect insides! A sweet boy who has adapted exceptionally well to foster care, Elwood takes most things in stride and is indeed a very good boy.
Enjoying the company of his greyhound foster sister, Elwood happily spends the work week at home (with access to toilet) and isn’t fussed about entertaining himself with toys or the occasional zoomie while his humans are away. When someone is home, he likes to shadow them around, but at nighttime he often opts for the quiet of the lounge room to sleep.
A social boy, Elwood very much enjoys meeting other humans and canines on his walks and isn’t bothered by off lead dogs approaching him. He will give dogs of all sizes a polite sniff, and picks up well on cues from them if a small is a bit intimidated by his size he seems to understand to keep his distance and give them space.
On his first visit to a Farmers Market, without his foster sister for emotional support, Elwood took a while to warm up to the hustle and bustle of it all. But with some time hanging out on the fringe, and lots of treats, he was soon brave enough to make lots of friends and ensure he received his share of the pats and attention. He even enjoyed meeting some young children and was very sweet and gentle with them.
Although not a houdini hound who has ever plotted an escape from his yard, Elwood’s new home should know that he can very easily clear the height of a lifted 4WD, and will confidently push through half open doors or gates. He is also curious about noises and will go to check things out by walking into the yard or watching through windows, it would be best to keep a close eye on him as he may wander off if there was something interesting to go see - his foster carer reports that his recall is coming along, but a work in progress (however this clever clogs does know to wait before crossing a street, and to go to his bed if asked).
It will be a lucky home who welcome Elwood to their family, he will be a wonderful companion!

Thinking about adopting?
We’d love to help you find your greyhound match!
To get started, we’ll ask for a bit of information about your home and lifestyle on our application form. This helps us make sure we match you with a dog that suits your household and sets both of you up for success.
Many greyhounds come from racing kennels where they’re used to having other dogs around. Some can struggle being left completely alone, which can lead to signs of separation anxiety like barking or chewing.
Because of this, we usually look to rehome greyhounds into homes where they’ll have company - either human or canine - and not be left alone for more than four hours on a regular basis. If that’s not your setup right now, don’t worry as we’re happy to chat about options such as dog walkers, doggy daycare, or taking your greyhound to work.
Our Adoption Checklist:
To be considered for adoption, we ask that you have:
A secure, fully fenced yard (minimum height around hip height)
A home where the dog is allowed to sleep inside at night
A routine that doesn’t leave the dog home alone regularly for long periods (more than 4 hours) without people or another dog for company
If you’re not sure whether you tick every box, please still apply! We’re happy to have a conversation and see if we have a greyhound who might be the right fit.
Please fill in as much detail as you can as there’s no word limit on any question.
