About Tank
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Tank
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Rottweiler x
BREED TRAITS: – originally bred to drive cattle to market or pull carts – they have also served with police and in the military. Rottweilers require experienced care and training as they are strong and intense and if given the right environment will be a loving, faithful and intelligent friend for life. They are a sensitive breed that do not like to be left alone – they love their humans but need early and continued socialisation with dogs. Rottis are an intelligent breed and require mental stimulation – a bored Rotti can be a destructive one – they also have a high prey drive. They have a high energy level and are very playful so really only suited to active homes.
*************************************************************************************
ASSETS: He’s friendly, eager to please, obedient, hyper at times, active and playful, a complete joy to have around!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Tank loves to play with his rope toy and spend time with his person. He also loves to get out and about in the car for rides and new experiences. Once he’s home and tired he’s happy to curl up with his person for lots of cuddles.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Tank is a smart boy with a gorgeous personality. He’s always happy to see you and has the cutest face!
OTHER ANIMALS: Tank is very excitable when he sees another dog but with training is gradually learning to say hello to dogs on lead, have a good sniff and move on. All introductions to other dogs have been on lead or running up and down a fence line and he is always excited and happy to interact. His next step will be to interact with other dogs off lead and we have been working on his recall so that this can happen. We feel that he would happily live with another dog dependent on meet. He has been introduced to a cat at his carers home and although he shows no aggression he does get very excited and wants to chase. Due to his size and strength we would not recommend homing Tank with a cat.
GENERAL INFO: Tank walks well on his lead but when passing other dogs he will pull to go and meet them and have a sniff. His new adopter will need to continue his training of focus and calm. He is housetrained and will bark when someone comes to the door and at strangers. He isn’t a fan of baths and isn’t destructive but will make short work of his chew toys. He can be a little hyper when meeting new people and will jump up, so will need continued training with this. He knows a few commands but still being a pup with a zest for life, is easily distracted so this will need continued input.
ESSENTIALS for Tank:
** An active, loving home where he’s given time to settle in and get comfortable.
** Tank will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity.
** Tank needs a well fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Tank needs to be given access inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
**Tank will need continued training to keep his boundaries in place and channel his energy.
Tank would go well in a home with gentle, dog-savvy children over 8 years of age or an adult only home. We feel that Tank could live with another playful female dog, dependent on meet.
If Tank sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
