About Ella
Sweet little Ella can be can be a bit of a “slow burn” kind of a girl. She can a while to warm up to men, but once she gets to know you she would live inside of your skin if she could. The softest most gentle soul, she has so much love to give a home who have the time and patience to take things at her pace.
Currently in foster care with a male greyhound sibling, Ella doesn’t pay him much mind except when he is eating something yummy (her food manners with other dogs are non-existent and she will steal food from another dog’s mouth if given the chance, so physically separated meal times is a must). Outside of other greyhounds, dogs that are not sighthound shaped are a curiosity bordering on discomfort, and really best avoided in Ella’s opinion - she opts to give them a wide berth on walks and will always show you the safest route to pass without fuss. We think she would thrive as an only dog, provided that she has humans who can ease her into time alone and has access to toilet.
Highly food motivated, and a bit of a smarty pants, Ella has taken to training well. She knows “bed”, “sit”, “down”, and “stay” - although her foster carers report that “stay” is a bit of a work in progress, this little shadow’s motto is wherever you’re going, I’m coming too. She would make an excellent WFH snootervisor and her little attention seeking headbutts when she can no longer contain the need for your affection can be an excellent midday morale booster.
Ella loves her twice daily walks but can be a bit unsure with loud noises or passing strange men, she grows in confidence every day but would not be suited to a busy inner city environment or an apartment home. A house with a yard would be a dream for her, lots of room to zoom and play with her humans - she loves mouthy/nibbly games and can get overexcited quite easily which leads to the classic greyhound pinball behaviour as she zips around. It’s a joy to watch her, but she could easily knock over small children or elderly/frail adults.
With the softest ears and impressive range of facial expressions, Ella has no trouble working her way into the hearts of those she shares a household with once she’s settled in and finished pretending to be aloof. Her foster carer reports “you can really tell that she loves you when she looks at you” - and what could be more rewarding than earning the trust of a dog who only wants to know she is safe and loved in return?

Thinking about adopting?
We’d love to help you find your greyhound match!
To get started, we’ll ask for a bit of information about your home and lifestyle on our application form. This helps us make sure we match you with a dog that suits your household and sets both of you up for success.
Many greyhounds come from racing kennels where they’re used to having other dogs around. Some can struggle being left completely alone, which can lead to signs of separation anxiety like barking or chewing.
Because of this, we usually look to rehome greyhounds into homes where they’ll have company - either human or canine - and not be left alone for more than four hours on a regular basis. If that’s not your setup right now, don’t worry as we’re happy to chat about options such as dog walkers, doggy daycare, or taking your greyhound to work.
Our Adoption Checklist:
To be considered for adoption, we ask that you have:
A secure, fully fenced yard (minimum height around hip height)
A home where the dog is allowed to sleep inside at night
A routine that doesn’t leave the dog home alone regularly for long periods (more than 4 hours) without people or another dog for company
If you’re not sure whether you tick every box, please still apply! We’re happy to have a conversation and see if we have a greyhound who might be the right fit.
Please fill in as much detail as you can as there’s no word limit on any question.
