Meet Copper
Copper is a handsome boy with a big personality and an even bigger love for the outdoors. Best suited to experienced owners or those familiar with his breed, Copper is adaptable and could happily fit into a variety of household environments. Active people and families will find him a great match, as he absolutely thrives on being out and about exploring.
True to his Harrier nature, Copper’s nose is his guide – he adores taking in every sight, sound, and especially scent, with his snooter firmly glued to the ground on walks. He can also be quite vocal at times, which is very typical for his breed – it’s simply his way of chatting with you and letting you know what’s on his mind. While he may be a little nervous occasionally, he quickly shows his agreeable, friendly, and happy nature once he feels comfortable.
Copper is smart, curious, and always ready to make friends. Playful, social, affectionate, and wonderfully engaging, he has all the qualities of a dog who will fill his new home with warmth and fun. He’s confident, outgoing, and more than ready to start his next adventure with a family who will embrace his love for life!
Ideal Home: Copper is best suited to live in either a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large sized yard, and high secure fencing.
Family: Copper is open to meet kids from 8 years and up - reason for this is because Copper can be a littler nervous sometimes, again this is typical for his breed, but we feel that older kids will be more understanding for his needs.
Copper is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is able to spend time in the yard on his own, but on occasion would also like to be inside with his new family too.
Furry Friends: Copper is open to meet other dogs, during his assessment Copper was excited & eager to meet the other dog. He is playful and loves to be involved in on all the fun. Copper is a social dog, however not all will like his vocal nature.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Copper would go living with/meeting cats and pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Copper would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Due to his breed, Copper is highly trainable - most of his training is self willed, but he is also very eager to please.
With additional training, and time to settle into a new routine, Copper could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Copper is still learning his name but he knows commands such as sit, down and roll over.
He is food motivated too - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea as he is very responsive to them. He is gentle when taking treats from you.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Copper has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him healthy and content. Copper enjoys playing with toys, rope toys are great - but soft toys are better! He also loves to be out and about, going for walks and socialising with other dogs.
Copper walks well on lead - only pulling sometimes. He is best to be walked on either a collar/lead or harness.
Staff Comments: Copper is a handsome dog with a one of a kind personality, a love for adventure, and a nose that never leaves the ground! He is looking for an active family who will embrace his love of exploring as he sets off on his next big adventure.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
