About Saphoura and Nelson
It is no surprise that bonded pairs are harder to find homes for but once you know about this pair, you might just change your mind.
Spoodles (Cocker Spaniel x Poodle), Saphoura and Nelson are the best of friends, having spent their lives together.
Saphoura, who will be turning 11 in November and Nelson, who turns 12 in December, have come into our care through no fault of their own.
Saphoura weighs around 13 kg and Nelson weighs 8kg but both firmly believe that they are lap dogs!
Unfortunately, these dogs came into our care needing some significant surgeries and we are happy to say that they are now on the road to recovery.
Saphoura needed a dental and had several fatty lumps removed. Nelson however was the one who broke everyone’s heart.
At his pre-op checkup, Nelson was quiet protective of his mouth. He didn’t bite or anything, but he kept moving away, not wanting the vet to look in his mouth. This should have been a red flag……….
Once asleep, the reasons that Nelson didn’t want anyone to touch his mouth was that he was in AGONY. Just touching his gum meant an explosion of pus and behind every tooth was another pocket of infection. In total, Nelson had 32 teeth removed! With the infection cleaned out and given antibiotics and pain relief, by the next day, his carer was seeing a completely different dog!
Before his surgery, Nelson had been a quiet, reserved little guy but once the pain and infection was gone, he turned into a playful, loving, affectionate pup. The poor little guy must have been suffering for so long that the pain had become his “normal” and he was so excited to be free from it.
Now Saphoura and Nelson are healthy and ready to find their forever homes. They are awesome with other dogs, good with kids and are happy to keep each other company if you need to go out to work.
They are housetrained and well behaved and like to share a bed if they can.
Can you help keep these bonded besties together?
