About Rocket
Rocket
A wonderful cuddle-bug!
If you are looking for a companion who is affectionate, loyal and active - Rocket is your dog! Rocket, a young Red Heeler X Border Collie, is looking for a loving family to be in orbit with. He is an extreme 21kg cuddle-bug. Once you come down to his level, he will enthusiastically melt and wriggle into you by sitting onto you and leaning into you until he finds his spot on you. Despite this eagerness, Rocket is overall a polite and calm dog, settling into a comfortable spot quickly around the home.
Rocket came into foster care as his original owner was terminally ill. He has slight separation anxiety, which is resolved by giving him a treat before leaving and he will settle on the couch or sunbake outside. Overall, he has the nice balance of being a very quiet dog, rarely barking, however, he does showcase slight guardian tendencies and can bark at suspicious noises occurring outside the house which he can quickly be called away from.
Rocket enjoys his walks - taking off into his sniffaris. It is possible he had little exposure on walks as certain loud cars can panic him and he would need someone to continue his exposure to things ‘that roll’ (bicycles, scooters, skateboards) as his herding instinct can kick in. But it is with confidence, with the right guidance, that can be trained away from him as he is already getting more confident with loud noises and ‘rolling’ things and his food motivation makes training easy.
Rocket is learning how to play tug and has potential with the company of other dogs. On walks he can whine and pull to meet them, he will likely be more neutral with the right guidance. He has not lived with children, but his personality suggests he will be polite with them. He has not been tested with cats. The space and size of your home does not bother Rocket, as long as you love him and let him whizz into your life.
