About Bert and Ernie
Meet Bertie and Ernie… The Odd Couple You Didn’t Know You Needed
💖 The Home Bertie and Ernie Need
Bertie and Ernie are looking for a family who can offer more than just love – they need time, patience and commitment to help them thrive. Their perfect adopters will:
• Spend quality time daily – whether that’s play, training, or simply relaxing together.
• Provide mental and physical stimulation – toys, walks, adventures, or activities suited to their energy level.
• Offer a safe and secure environment – indoors with a warm bed and an outdoor access that is fully fenced.
• Commit to healthy nutrition and vet care – regular check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and a good diet.
• Continue positive training and guidance – using kind, reward-based methods to help them learn and feel safe.
🐕 Lifestyle Match
Bertie and Ernie will do best with adopters who:
• Are home more often then not.
• Have a fairly active lifestyle.
• Calm and patient energy.
• Previous dog experience.
• No young children under 12 years old.
• Willingness to exercise daily.
• Allow regular access outside.
• Comfortable with dogs indoors and on furniture.
• Happy for dog to sleep in human’s bed at night.
• Enjoys regular training and interaction.
🏠 Other Pets
Bertie and Ernie don’t need to be the only pet and enjoy other dogs, needing a housemate that would join in with play. They aren’t food protective and can be fed around other dogs. They have spent time with small, and medium dogs.
Bertie and Ernie have not been tested with cats, they live with other animals including the goats, chickens and indoor galah. They have never snapped or attempted to bite; they just avoid.
🐾 Ongoing Needs
To ensure Bertie and Ernie have the best life, adopters must be ready to:
• Provide daily exercise suitable to their age and breed.
• Provide ongoing enrichment (puzzle toys, training games, scent work, etc.).
• Make them part of the family, not left outside alone.
• Be a pack leader and help them snap out of bouts of anxiety.
• Provide behavioural training with no shouting and clear calm instruction and praise.
• Be a calm, patient owner to create confidence in new situations.
• Continue socialisation with new people to encourage outgoing personalities.
🐶 Personality Traits
This quirky little duo are the true “odd couple”; each with their own personality that perfectly balances the other.
Ernie is the soft-hearted snuggler of the pair – happiest when he’s curled up in your lap and soaking up affection. He can get a little clingy at times and sometimes needs gentle reminders about personal space, but his sweetness shines through in every cuddle.
Bertie on the other hand, is the cheeky mischief-maker. He loves to stir up fun and will happily rope others into a game, even if they’re not quite in the mood. Affection is very much on his terms - A little attitude comes out when he’s had enough – but his playful spirit is hard to resist.
Together, these boys adore zoomies, wrestling and exploring new environments. They complement each other beautifully, offering support and confidence when faced with new situations. They both get along well with other dogs, with Bertie diving straight in and Ernie warming up at his own pace.
Meal times are a reflection of their personalities too: Bertie has a healthy appetite, while Ernie sometimes needs a little extra encouragement to get started.
As a bonded pair, Bertie and Ernie balance each other out – one bringing cheeky charm, the other endless cuddles – making them a truly delightful duo ready to brighten someone’s life.
