About Luigi
Luigi requires the following in his new home:
- Another desexed dog living in the home.
- To have the option to spend time inside with his family when they are home and to sleep at night, is currently sleeping in a crate over night.
- Gentle exposure around loud noises and meeting new people.
- No children under 5 or children that create loud sudden noises.
Luigi is a gentle soul and although he has his silly puppy moments he’s pretty happy living life in the slow lane. He does love zoomies around the backyard, wrestling with his foster siblings and carrying around his favourite toy but afterwards is quite content to curl up on the couch beside you and have a big snooze. He’s a water baby and loves splashing around in a shell pool.
Luigi genuinely wants to please and has a very easygoing trainable nature.
He does not like loud noises so needs ongoing gentle exposure to reduce his anxiety around this.
He loves being around his people, he will plod around the house after you and is perfectly happy just watching what you’re doing and hanging out. He’s the perfect companion for someone who wants a best bud to keep them company.
Luigi is still learning about meeting new people, he can take a little while to warm up to someone he hasn’t met before, but as long as they are quiet and let him approach them on his own terms, he comes around very quickly (treats also help speed up the process). He has not had any experience with kids and would be best with kids over 5.
Luigi is great for car rides, he does want to stand up and look where you’re going but is slowly learning this doesn’t get him to the destination any faster and it’s better to just lay down and take a nap. He will jump in and out of the car when told to.
Luigi is still working on walking on the lead, he can pull but it’s not unmanageable and with consistent training he will continue to get better with each walk, UPDATE- see video of Luigi walking on lead, he is doing so well with his training.
Luigi has learnt to sit and drop, he will wait until he’s told “okay” to leave his crate and has been starting to work on this for all doors/gates/getting out of the car etc. He is working on the “wait” command to eat food. He has also learnt “touch” (with a hand target) which helps with introducing him to new people so he can initiate the first contact for a treat reward, this is also helpful when he gets too distracted pulling on the lead. He is also learning to go in his crate when told.
Luigi’s toilet training is going great and he reliably takes himself outside with access to a doggy door. In a home without a doggy door he may need some extra guidance to learn how to signal when he needs to go out to the toilet.
Luigi will nap on his bed during the day but is crate trained and is always in the crate overnight. He does not need to go to the toilet overnight and is happy there until he is let out in the morning. He will also go in the crate for a few hours if he needs to during the day.
Luigi has seen horses and was reasonably unbothered, not showing any “chase” instincts.

Adoption details
Please note- we do not work on a first in best dressed basis, we assess all applications to choose the home that we believe will best match the animal.
If you believe one of our animals would be a good match for your home please send us a detailed email us with some information about the people and any other animals in your home as well as the type of lifestyle you can offer a new rescue pet.
We are volunteerswho run the rescue around families, paid employment and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require you to travel to meet the animal you are looking to adopt. For dog adoptions, any other dogs in your home musr attend the meet and greet, this enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
We reserve the right to refuse the adoption if we don't believe it's a good match for our animals.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care or we will assist you in finding them a suitable new home, this is a condition thst you agree to when signing our Adoption Agreement.
