Meet Texas,
This handsome boy is looking for a home where his personality can truly shine. Texas is best suited to experienced owners, ideally those familiar with his breed, but he’s proven himself adaptable and ready to slot into many household environments. With medium to high energy, he’s always up for a good walk or adventure, but he doesn’t demand hours of exercise - he’s perfectly happy to balance his play with some downtime.
Texas has a beautiful mix of traits: he’s gentle, friendly, curious, and smart, with a confident streak that makes him shine. He’s playful and social with other dogs, always ready to join in the fun, and he’s also a real softie at heart. In fact, this big guy can be a bit of a sook when he wants some extra affection! When Texas first arrived, he was quite scared, but with patience and love, he has blossomed into a sweet, affectionate, and engaging dog who will no doubt continue to thrive in the right home.
Ideal Home: Texas is fine to live in either a stand alone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: Texas is open to meet kids from 8 years and up. Reason for this is because when Texas came in he was quite scared and shy, we feel that going into a new home may see his more reserved side come back - older kids will be more understanding of his needs as he settles into a new environment and routine. He is also a very large dog, and may accidently knock smaller kids over.
Texas is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is able to spend time in the yard on his own, but on occasion would also like to be inside with his new family too
Furry Friends: Texas is open to meet other dogs, during his assessment Texas was excited & eager to meet the other dog. He was friendly, playful and offered play bows. However, due to his size, some dogs found Texas to be a little intimidating - Texas, being smart and switched on was able to realise this, and was able to give the other dog space before coming back to continue playing. Texas met another dog similar in size to him, and both dogs got along well - Texas is social and understanding of other dogs needs.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Texas would go living with/meeting cats and pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Texas would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. With additional training, and time to settle into a new routine, Texas could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Texas is still learning his name, but he knows commands such as sit and down.
He is food motivated too - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea as he is very responsive to them. He is gentle when taking treats from you.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Texas has mid to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him healthy and content. Texas doesn't really show interest in playing with toys, however this could change once he is settled into his new home. He also likes to go for walks, meet other dogs and loves personal play with his handlers, cuddles and being near you.
Texas walks well on lead with some minor pulling. He is best to be walked on either a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Big heart, bigger personality! Texas is a gentle, playful and affectionate boy who’s gone from shy to shining. He loves walks, adores other dogs, and can be a little sooky in the sweetest way. He’s ready for an experienced home to keep helping him thrive!

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
