About Ali
Meet the beautiful Ali, a gorgeous gentle soul looking for her perfect pack!
Ali is a petite 3-year and 4-month-old Mini Poodle weighing just 4.8 kgs, with a heart as delicate as her frame.
Ali has come into care as an Ex breeding dog and has lived a very sheltered life and is nervous around people and will take time to settle and build up confidence to be part of the human element of her family.
Ali's a quiet, gentle girl with a shy nature and an unwavering love for her doggy friends. Though she’s still learning to trust humans, Ali’s tender spirit and quirky charm make her an endearing presence in any home that’s quiet, calm, patient, and full of dog-friendly love.
Ali absolutely loves having fur siblings (she has lived with French Bulldogs, Maltese, Shih Tzu and other 'oodles' fur kids. Ali is needing a home where there is ANOTHER DOG that will help her with getting her confidence with her humans but also to have a play with (once settled) and also to snuggle up with thru the day on the couch snoozing.
Ali loves to roam freely around the house, she is not a fan of a closed crate, but will happily go into a penned area as a safe space for her when she is overwhelmed.
Most of the time, Ali prefers to roam freely through the house, choosing a cozy corner, lounge, or a soft dog bed to nap on while staying close to her foster siblings, quite often using her foster siblings backs as her pillow.
Ali is a lady of leisure and comfort, with an energy level best described as low, Ali is a sedate, quiet dog who finds comfort in stillness and routine.
Ali rarely barks and is happiest when she can curl up on a dog bed with her fur siblings or lounge peacefully on the couch, as always right next to one of her fur siblings, of course!
Although Ali isn’t a lap dog and prefers not to be handled too much, she will tolerate it, only if needed (to hold Ali in your arms you'll needs to snuggle her close into your body as she likes to be held firm and so she can cuddle into you). Ali enjoys being nearby and observing her humans from a safe distance. Affection, for Ali, is more about presence than touch.
Ali's foster mum has been working very hard with Ali to show her that being "held" and having a "snuggle" isn't all that bad after all. Ali is slowly realizing that a pat from her foster mum and the children aren't so bad after all and is more accepting of pat! Her foster mum lets her be the ones that goes to the humans at her pace.
Of course, it's all a work in progress and day by day with small steps to help Ali build her confidence.
Ali is super food motivated, and she’ll gingerly take a treat from her fosters family's hands , even the children's hand before darting away with wide eyes and a comical expression that seems to say, “Oh no! It was a human—run!”, but will stay close in the area for another treat or what food is on offer.
Ali prefers older, quieter children and adults who can respect her boundaries and allow her to come around in her own time.
Ali isn't the kind of dog who will sit on your lap, but she will sit near you, or even across the room, watching you with curious eyes and a gentle spirit, she wants to engage so badly, you can see it in her eyes, she just needs to keep building her confidence.
Ali's deepest bonds are with OTHER DOGS, particularly small, calm, fluffy white female dogs, who are as laid-back and gentle as she is.
Ali absolutely thrives in the company of other small female dogs and seems to draw confidence and comfort from their presence. In fact, her ideal home will need to INCLUDE another friendly, calm fluffy girl or two , who can help her continue to blossom and gain her confidence she gets from her current foster siblings.
Ali's been tested with cats and shows no real interest in them, at most, a passing sniff as they walk by. Small pets, like budgies in the foster family’s home don’t seem to catch her attention at all either.
Ali’s daily routine is one of calm consistency. At night, she likes to sleep on the bed, usually claiming a corner spot on a pillow or curling up beside a fluffy foster sibling.
Ali enjoys lounging on her dog bed or the lounge, often watching the household from afar while the children homeschool.
Occasionally, Ali's cheeky side emerges, and she’ll sneak away with a crayon, eraser or one of the children's sensory toys, it's her version of "hidden treasure", she'll tucked it away like a little pirate hiding their LOOT! Ali gets this cheeky expression on her face and it's like she's thinking, "I did it, I managed to bury my "Hidden treasure"!
While Ali has many beautiful qualities, walking on a lead isn’t one of them. The outside world is still a bit too overwhelming for her, and she much prefers the comfort and safety of her home.
Ali's first response is flight so while she doesn't try and escape or run away you will need a secure yard and a family who understands that she will never be a dog-park regular or a walking companion, but that’s perfectly okay. What she lacks in outside socialization, she makes up for with quiet companionship and quirky, heartwarming behaviors.
Ali is toilet trained
Food is Ali’s greatest motivator. She is incredibly gentle when taking treats and can’t resist the smell of roast chicken, blueberries or hearing a red apple, carrot being peeled and cut up! Ali will often give a little squeal of happiness and run over for a piece of any of these treats (chicken, apple and carrot or blueberries are her all-time favorite).
Ali will gently take her treat and then off she goes, as if to say, "Ohh, it's that human again, quick run, but take the food first, quickly, and run"! Ali's love of food makes her a willing participant in gentle bonding, and she’s always up for a tasty reward.
Ali also enjoys small Kong chew toys, happily entertaining herself while nestled beside one of her foster siblings.
Ali is not your typical cuddle bug, but she has her own unique way of showing affection and loyalty. She is an incredibly special little lady who needs a home that values her for who she is!
A reserved, loving soul who adores other dogs and will quietly love her humans from afar, just on the sidelines.
Ali likes to be in close proximity but just out of arms reach from her humans.
In saying this, you can pick Ali up (she has no aggression whatsoever, it's just fear) so if needed you can pick Ali up and nestle her into your body, she'll often wrap her little paws around your other hand /arm as comfort.
Ali does ok at the groomers (she just needs a groomer who knows how to work with timid, shy dogs)
At her current foster come, they have bathed Ali a few times and Ali does tend to enjoy a nice warm bath, and is quite calm. Ali even let her foster mum towel off and then blow dry her coat without a fuss!
Ali will flourish in a calm, patient household with at least one other small, gentle female dog and a family who respects her need for space, who will give her the time to blossom at her own pace.
Ali will make a wonderful companion to the right family!
One that sees the beauty in her gentle, quirky nature and is willing to give her the time and understanding she needs to truly feel safe and settled.
In return, Ali will offer quiet love, sweet company, and the joy of watching her grow into her best, most confident self.
