Meet Pesto - A Resilient Little Kelpie Seeking Adventure

Pesto's story began in a cardboard box in a park, where he and his 7 siblings were left to fend for themselves. Fortunately, a kind soul discovered them and brought Pesto to a vet clinic, who then contacted Forever Friends Animal Rescue for help. Despite his tough start, Pesto's spirit remains unbroken, and he's now ready to find his forever family.

Pesto is a young Kelpie puppy - a bundle of energy, playfulness, and intelligence looking for the right active family! He's a high-energy Kelpie with strong working instincts, bursting with curiosity and drive. Pesto loves to play tug, chase moving things, and needs lots of mental and physical engagement to thrive. With guidance and support, Pesto's curious nature helps him explore the world around him. He's very intelligent and capable of being trained to a very high level - he'll soak up structure and training like a sponge.

Pesto adores people and is excited to meet new friends, showing off his affectionate side. When it comes to other dogs, Pesto is a bit cautious at first but warms up quickly when he realises he's safe with them. For his development, Pesto needs a stable, well-rounded resident dog in the home to help him build confidence and learn canine social skills.

Pesto's got a big personality and big needs - he's not suited to just anyone. Adopters must understand working breeds like Kelpies and be ready to commit to significant daily time and effort with him. A walk alone won't cut it for this crazy pup! Pesto thrives on training, play, and activities that tap into his working instincts. Puppy school is a mandatory requirement for Pesto's development, and we strongly recommend ongoing group classes through adolescence and adulthood to help shape him into a fantastic dog.

Currently, Pesto's routine includes socialisation walks where he sees, smells, and hears all sorts of new things, three training sessions per day, plenty of playtime with tug toys and anything that moves (plus lots of chew toys because he's a puppy!), downtime in a puppy pen when he's not supervised, sleeping in his crate overnight, and he absolutely loves cuddles and interactive play in between. He's looking for a family who'll keep up with his high energy, keep feeding his curiosity, and keep training him - he'll reward them with loyalty and loads of fun.

The ideal adopters for Pesto are experienced with active, intelligent dogs like Kelpies, have a calm and well-rounded resident dog to help Pesto grow, and are committed to meeting his big needs for training, play, and engagement daily.
