About Huxley
Huxley – what can I say about this amazing dog? He’ll share your sofa, your bed, your food and steal your heart right along with it. He loves nothing better than to lie next to you while you pet him, preferably all day. He understands the word No when it comes to your bed and sofa and will happily settle in his bed or on the floor, if you insist. Once he understands the rules, he keeps to them.
He’s easy going, smart, lovable, and pretty much steady as a rock in most circumstances, apart from thunder or fireworks. He’s attended the AWAR sausage sizzle at Albury Bunnings, been down to the On the Border Community market, attended a soccer game or three, been walked next to busy roads and had trips in the car. He’s been fine with it all and is polite to strangers.
He’ll happily spend time with you in the garden ‘helping’, relax near you while you watch TV or take himself off to the back deck to watch the world go by. Should you decide to play catch, have a tug-of-war or go for a ramble where he can sniff every tree in the neighbourhood, he’ll be in seventh heaven. He has a sense of humour and a mischievous streak that shows when you play. He does an amazing victory dance when he catches the ball you throw.
His foster carer has a dog and Huxley gets along well with Jess. He did rumble at her a couple of times during the first few days when he was being petted and she came too close. It was an unsettling time for him as he had just been surrendered. Since then, they’ve been fine together. Just something to be aware of, and manage for the first couple of days, should you have another dog.
Huxley was previously with one family for his entire life and that stability shows in his demeanour and personality. He was mostly an outside dog and loves being in the garden. He is fully house-trained and sleeps inside at his foster carer’s without any incidents. While he has not been tested with cats while in care, he did live with two cats in his previous life and tended to ignore them.
Huxley is an older dog who loves life and has so much love and companionship to give. He needs a daily brush to keep that gorgeous coat in condition, but he loves the attention so it’s easy. He loves his daily walks as well.
Things to be aware of: Huxley has some arthritis and will be on medication for the rest of his life. This presents with him being stiff first thing in the morning but he then walks that off. Like many other dogs, he is scared of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs medication to help him cope during those times.
The only reason Huxley’s foster carer is even typing up this profile is because if she keeps him, she won’t be able to foster other dogs, and we don’t have enough foster carers for that to even be an option.
