Meet Prairie,
Prairie is a gentle little sweetheart who takes life one calm, quiet step at a time. She would be a wonderful fit for first-time owners as well as those with a little more experience, especially in a peaceful home where she can truly relax and shine.
With her soft, agreeable nature, Prairie is friendly, affectionate, and happy in her own quiet way. While she can be a little shy at first, she quickly warms up with gentle pats and a kind voice. She’s even open to meeting kids of all ages, as long as they understand she may need a moment to feel safe before showing her affectionate side.
Prairie is also making steady progress with being picked up, carried, and cuddled - every day she’s discovering that snuggles are actually quite nice! She especially loves being scratched and patted all over, and when she rolls onto her back to show off her beautiful belly, it’s her way of asking for even more attention.
If you’re looking for a gentle and affectionate little cat who will happily share quiet days with you while growing more confident and cuddly each day, Prairie might just be the perfect match.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Prairie would go living with dogs. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
As for cats, Prairie seems interested in making friends. We encourage anyone with existing cats to do a gradual and supervised introduction over a few days to ensure that both cats have the best chance of becoming friends.
We always encourage cats to be indoor cats. Prairie has already experienced living on the streets and she enjoys being inside where she feels safe. If she is outside, it will increase her chances of running away, getting lost, injured, or worse. As an inside cat she can live her best life possible.
Prairie has low-range energy levels and is not interested in toys or playing currently - but she is learning how to play. She prefers to do her own thing, snooze the day away in an area she feels safe, or just being praised by you for being such a good girl.
Prairie is not fussy with her food and she won't say no to a treat or two either. Food is the way to her heart as it makes her very happy!
Staff Comments: Prairie is a super affectionate cat who improves everyday. She will do anything for you once she trusts you. She would make a great couch potato once adopted.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
