About Pat in the Hat
** Special Home Required**
Looking for a dog who will be a loyal, affectionate and playful companion?
Pat is a quick learner, eager to please, loving and sweet natured. After a stint in the pound, Pat is enjoying his new life of the care and attention that he deserves and has adjusted well to new daily routines of outdoor walks, playing fetch (especially with squeaky toys), some training and supervising foster mum while she gardens.
Pat is easy to train. He sits, waits, walks, paw shakes, and has learned how to ‘stay’ and to let Jaffa, his foster sister, through the door to come inside, a very smart and gracious boy.
He has a big heart, and in more ways than one. He has advanced underlying heart disease, although you would never know it looking at him.
Pat has been diagnosed with:
1. Mitral and tricuspid degenerative valve disease with severe left-sided cardiomegaly; ACVIM stage BII/C.
2. Restrictive mitral inflow filling pattern; rule out early cardiac decompensation.
He is symptom free at the moment, but his prognosis is about 18 months, and he’ll need ongoing medication and monitoring. (No need to disguise the medication as he chews both pills straight down. Such a good boy!)
🏡 Pat’s Ideal Home: Pat needs a home that will make sure that the time he has is filled with love, belly rubs, treats and all the snuggles his heart can handle.
Pat deserves a good life however long it may be.
A yard where he can stretch his legs with another dog would suit him. Pat’s winter routine includes coming into the warmth of the home at sunset, snuggle on the sofa and sleeps indoors on his bed.
He is used to his human/s being around more than they are not, maybe working from home a couple of days a week would help him not feel on his own for too many days in a row.
⚡ Energy Level: Pat’s around 13kg. His foster mum walks him about 1-1.5km each day and twice when weather permits. He loves his walks. He is also happy to snooze on his bed for the rest of the day and be occupied with treat puzzles.
Playtime is kept short but trips to the park mean he will bound up to his four-legged friends enthusiastically. He is learning to ‘heel’. He loves to play fetch and is now bringing toys back about 60% of the time.
Initially, he wasn’t too familiar with how to settle while riding in a car, but has come leaps and bounds, especially when he knows the dog park is the destination.
👶 Suitability to Children: Pat hasn’t officially met any kids yet, but he’s shown the same keen interest to meet them when they pass by as he does for adult humans passing by.
Being a medium-sized dog, if your kids speak his love language of lots of affection and attention, and willing to share their toys—especially the squeaky ones—Pat could be their new best friend!
🐶 Suitability to Other Pets: Enthusiastic to meet and play with other dogs, Pat just needs to be introduced on lead first.
He’s currently living with a lady dog who is half his size, and although sometimes he can be a bit of a boof, it is not intentional, and he does love the ladies.
Cats? Not Pat's jam
Pat's love language, besides food like most pets, is affection and touch. He loves being patted and will give affection back to you in spades. His liquid amber eyes will put you in a trance.
If you're looking for a loyal, loving and snuggly companion who’s ready to fit in with your routines, Pat is waiting to meet you!

All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
