About Boy Scout
*In foster care in Lewisham, Sydney*
Boy Scout is an incredibly sweet, resilient teen looking for a loving, indoor-only home. He's a brave little explorer who loves investigating every corner of the house, meowing to let you know when he’s found something interesting. Under desks, atop cat trees, he just loves to see what's around. He often looks out the window or lounges in boxes and near the music speaker (don't worry he won't judge your taste in music). He gets comfortable quickly with unfamiliar people and new surroundings. Plus he's great with house guests, vet visits and car travel. Well adjusted to indoor life, Boy Scout is fully litter trained and has a short, low maintenance coat.
Living with Boy Scout is an easy-going experience. He's neither too in your face for attention, nor distant and aloof. He's that perfect balance of having his own things going on in life (window watching, exploring, independent play) and checking in on you for attention. He purrs loudly when you start patting or playing with him, adoring human attention and love when it's offered. If you're looking for a low-key but loyal companion you will love this junior scout. A nice bonus is that Boy Scout gets along well with dogs big or small, having met a few in his time in foster. So if you're looking to add a cat to the dog pack, this is the one!
Thinking he may be a good fit? Here are the merit badges you’ll earn with Boy Scout:
⍟ Friend to FIV+ Felines --- Boy Scout came into rescue as an FIV-positive kitten. Adopting an FIV cat can be very rewarding, as they are often overlooked or misunderstood due to their scary-sounding acronym. But the fact is FIV is a manageable condition: cats with FIV live full and happy lives! If you're familiar with FIV cats, you already know this. If not, come meet him and learn more! The short version is that he should be indoors-only, kept up-to-date with vaccinations and parasite control, have a happy, loving home, and receive prompt vet care in case of illness. You know, all the things you'd normally do for any cat!
⍟ Toothless Tenderheart --- One thing FIV+ cats are prone to is dental disease, and Boy Scout has had most of his teeth removed (just his canines left). He soldiered very bravely through the procedure and recovered with no complications. And yes - he eats perfectly fine! Being toothless doesn't slow him down one bit and he still happily crunches his way through kibble. Only difference is you get to enjoy his gummy smile and know that at least teeth-brushing will be a quick affair.
Like all Maggie's pets, Boy Scout is microchipped, desexed and vaccinated.

MY IDEAL HOME: I’m a really adaptable boy, so I think I’d suit most homes! Being so friendly, I'd like a home with people who'll love me and make me a part of the family. I’m OK being left alone and can entertain myself with my toys, but I love being by your side too. I’m interested in what you’re doing, but I’m not clingy and I'm happy to have my own space sometimes.
MY ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a pretty calm guy with medium to low-energy. Some play is good but mostly I'm relaxing, napping in boxes, or sitting next to you for cuddles.
MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: I haven’t met any kids yet, but I’m really easy-going so I'd probably be fine with them as long as they're gentle and kind.
MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: I've met a few dogs and currently living happily with a 1.5yr small dog in foster. I'd prefer to be the only cat in the house.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two-week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
