About Sumac
Meet Sumac, a big, handsome 18-month-old black cat with moviestar looks and a heart of gold - he's just still learning how to show it.
As an ex-tomcat, Sumac had to be tough in his early days, but now that
he's safe and cared for, he's decided smooches are actually pretty
great.
He can be shy at first, but once he warms up, this boy is a total
sweetheart who loves leaning in for affection.
Sumac may take a little time to feel comfortable in a new home, but
with patience, kindness, and a steady supply of love, he'll blossom
into the affectionate companion he's meant to be.
He's the kind of cat who'll surprise you by suddenly appearing for chin rubs and head
bumps, showing you just how far he's come from his streetwise past.
Adopt Sumac, and you'll not only gain a striking, panther-like buddy - you'll also get the joy of watching a shy boy turn into a smoochy, loyal
friend who will always be by your side.
To book a meet and greet please phone 5441-2209 or email barcreception@bendigo.vic.gov.au .
Due to the high volume of emails received, enquiries with a request for a specific appointment with phone details included will receive a response as priority over generic applications which state they are interested in meeting an animal.

Adoption details
BARC adoption officers will work with you to help you find a dog or cat that matches your needs, they will discuss things like yard fencing, exercise requirements, other pets and family members, lifestyle factors, and breed experience. To help make this as quick and easy as possible, we ask you complete and adoption questionnaire (located on our website, or you can complete on when you visit). This helps ensure that we are introducing you to the most suitable animals we have available.
We encourage all members of the household to attend a meet and greet with a pet prior to adopting an animal. If the animal being adopted is a dog, we will also require existing dogs in the household to attend the shelter as part of the meet and greet.
Holds can not be placed on animals over the phone, and can only be applied at the discretion of management.
