About Mouse
*I WILL BE AVAILABLE ON SATURDAY 30TH AUGUST AT THE PUPPY ADOPTION DAY HELD AT THE NORTH MELBOURNE LOST DOGS HOME.*
Little by name, but not quite by future-size, it's the majestic miss Mouse!
Mouse spent the beginning of her LDH journey in the care or some wonderful foster carers. Here's what they had to say about her:
"Mouse is a proper Maremma. She isn't the typical love everyone puppy, and will only come up to you on her own terms. At the moment, she really isn't a fan of being picked up. One of her greatest tricks is that she smiles with all her teeth! Mouse is a very sweet and shy girl, and will need a lot of time to get comfortable with people. She loves dogs, loves to be outside and she is very smart. It does take Mouse a while to get comfortable in her surroundings, and she will initially hide. She likes to be in small spaces, though being a Maremma, we are unsure how long she will be able to fit in them!
She likes to sit under my desk when I'm working. Whilst she doesn't understand small children yet, she is still young and will need gentle encouragement in learning that they are safe! Of course, mouse can be a little shy, and will back away if people come at her too quickly. She is very sweet when she is comfortable."
Mouse is a Guardian Livestock Dog and adopting a Maremma Sheepdog puppy is a rewarding experience, but it comes with specific responsibilities. These loyal, independent, and protective dogs were bred to guard livestock, so they require ample space, ideally a rural or farm environment where they can roam and have a job to do. Early socialization and consistent training are crucial to help them develop into well-mannered companions. Prospective owners should be prepared for a strong-willed breed that thrives with purpose and clear boundaries. A secure, fenced area and commitment to their mental and physical needs are essential for a happy, healthy Maremma.
Puppies require patience, routine and consistency. They are still learning about toilet training, how to be polite and how to be on their own. This little puppy is still young and needs guidance to grow and thrive. We recommend that they get put into puppy school to help with socialization as soon as possible. We also recommend that you use treats and toys to help reassure your puppy of the right way to be a dog.
All of our puppies are fed on premium Royal Canin food while at the Shelter and in foster. We recommend that you purchase a bag at the time of adoption (40% off from our friends at Royal Canin) so your new best friend can settle in to the home in the best possible way.
This little baby is still growing and learning so needs enrichment and things to keep them busy so they don't get bored at home.. that's when sneaky chewing can happen!
*Do I sound like the perfect fit for you and your family? Come and adopt me on Saturday the 30th of August!*
