About Majic
This is Majic, he’s a real character! A big, happy loving youngster, just 1 year old.
Majic is an extremely well cared for and much-loved family member. He’s hardly spent a moment away from retired parents. Sadly, Majic and the other older male Dane of the home have started to have issue with each other, and so their owners have had to make this heart-breaking decision.
While Majic will be dearly missed, he will bring all sorts of joy and entertainment to his new home. Once settled in you can look forward to a 'vocal' greeting each morning and after being let outside he will come back in and wait to be given his squeaky teddy, which upon mouthing (to get the squeak) he 'cries' back to it. It will melt your heart to hear him. He adores his fluffy toy friends and will often just carry them around in him mouth.
Majic is a clumsy comical guy, he can be a little slow to eat getting distracted easily and making a bit of a mess as bits drop out his mouth as he has a look around. His favourite morning treat is some gently warmed (lactose free) full cream milk and an arrowroot biscuit.
Being the giant baby that he is, Majic absolutely loves to run and play. Even though there are always some zoomies to celebrate being alive, a 2-3km walk will empty his tank and he’s ready to rest for a bit.
Majic will chase a tennis ball, and he’s even started to bring it back and drop it at your feet if you ignored him. Recall is definitely a work in progress that is coming along quite well so long as there is no distraction and he’s in a contained area.
Majic is still moving through his fear periods and is very much a Scooby Doo. He has been able to overcome his fear of open steps – he can now walk up and down them. He walks daily on a lead and will need lots more training with this. He does not look for treats on his walks to reward his behaviour, even if they are offered to him. He still pulls on a lead and if out and sees another dog he will only be focused on the other dog. So, taking on this giant pup is going to be best suited to someone with some solid experience with giant young dogs.
Majic has been social with other dogs when introduced carefully. His tends to get over excited and wants to play. His lifestyle hasn’t facilitated a lot of socialisation and given he can be nervous at times, we know this is going to be slow going. He used to tolerate his nails being clipped as a small pup but has decided this is now a life-threatening exercise. Sneaking in one clip now and then on a toe is his new baseline to improve on. It’s not that he’s against personal care and hygiene, he is generally happy to have his ears gently cleaned.
If you need help around the house, Majic will be right there following you around supervising. He’s so happy to join in with activities like digging a hole or sticking his head in the dishwasher for a bit of a prewash. If a car ride is in the day’s plans, he’s definitely up for that too.
Majic has had destructive moments with furniture but not so much lately. But remember he’s used to having company so will need some time to adjust and become more independent.
He does bark at noises he hears which will scare off any unwelcome visitors, but it also means the neighbours may need to be warned when he’s left alone at first and still getting used to it.
Majic would be happy being an 'only' dog as he loves attention and lots of massages. At night he loves to warm himself by the fire and will stand and stare at it before snuggling up in his bed. He is crate trained which will come in handy when being left for short periods at first after he’s eaten, done his business, had some exercise and ready to rest.
He has not been tested with cats.
Majic’s family say is he is the most beautiful, crazy funny boy that has so much love to give.
