Meet Babe,
Babe is our short queen and portly little princess with a big personality packed into a low-to-the-ground frame! While she may be best suited to experienced owners, she’s wonderfully adaptable and would fit right into all kinds of household environments. Babe would also thrive with an active family or individual who enjoys getting out and about, because this girl absolutely loves her walks and meeting new people along the way.
Babe is truly one-of-a-kind. She’s usually on the quiet side, but when she decides to “speak,” it’s unforgettable – her bark sounds a little like an old lawn mower trying to start, and it’s always her way of saying hello. She’s social through and through, always ready to make friends, and if she catches you chatting away, don’t be surprised when she jumps in to add her own two cents!
Friendly, outgoing and full of personality, Babe has her funny little quirks too – sometimes she’ll drift off into her own world, staring into the distance like she’s deep in thought. But the second you’re ready to engage, she’s right there, excited, curious, and thrilled to be included. Babe adores people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and is never shy about sharing her affection. Expect plenty of kisses, cuddles, and a very keen interest in treats (she’s got a serious love for snacks!).
Babe is playful, confident, affectionate, and just waiting to meet her new family – could that be you?
Ideal Home: Babe is fine to live in any property type and yard size is of no concern either - just as long as the yard is fully fenced and secure.
Family: Babe is open to meet kids of any age as long as they are dog savvy as she may accidently knock smaller kids over - especially if she gets the zoomies!
Babe is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as she shows no signs of separation anxiety. She is independent and able to spend time in the yard on her own, but would also love to be inside with her new family too.
Furry Friends: Babe is dog selective and what we mean by that is that other dogs may be selective of her. During her dog assessment she had a loose body and was eager to meet the other dog and make friends but she may be too playful for some dogs. She also likes to talk when she meets new potential friends, we mentioned this earlier on, and some dogs might not like her communication attempts. Ongoing socialisation would be beneficial for Babe.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Babe would go living with/meeting cats and pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Babe would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes should also be considered so that she can learn how to interact with other dogs - while she is eager to make friends her approach can be a little too much for other dogs - these classes will assist her.
Babe generally doesn't jump on you but she may jump up during play time.
With additional training and time to settle into a new routine Babe could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Babe is still learning her name, but she knows commands such as: sit.
Babe is food motivated too - she loves food and treats but sometimes can be snatchy when taking them from you. Having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea as he is very responsive to them.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Babe has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep her healthy and content. Babe doesn't show much interest in playing with toys. She prefers going for walks, socialising with other dogs and people and enjoys personal play with her handlers and of course, she loves cuddles!
Babe walks well on lead with some pulling - she will generally pull towards exciting points of interest. She should be walked on a harness due to the shape of her body.
Staff Comments: Babe is a very goofy, silly girl who likes to chat to you and tell you about her day. She craves your attention (and your food). She can be a little naughty but she totally knows what she is doing - she's like the class clown of the shelter - but she's also such a great dog that you can't help but laugh. She is playful and curious - everything in life is great when it comes to Babe.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
