About Bingo
Poor pigeon Bingo was touch and go when we received her a few weeks ago. Her previous owner was contacted, and they did not want her back for whatever reason. 😑
She came in with our other pigeon Bobby.
Bingo was 240 grams on intake, extremely emaciated and very clearly unwell. Her crop was sagging and smelly and on top of that I was worried she was suffering from refeeding syndrome as they had been offered food beforehand and was not looking good. Cytology revealed she was suffering from trichomonas (canker) as well as a nasty bacterial infection amongst other things. These problems impacted her ability to digest food (evident in her severe weight loss compared to her friend Bobby) and the content that was in there had formed a hard mass, so we did a crop flush to remove the content and clean her system of the infection a bit also. There was lots of other gross bits and bobs in there. 🤢
All that was left was to start medication and fluid therapy, put her in an incubator, supplement her diet with formula which is easier to digest and cross our fingers and toes. I was not sure she was going to make the first night, but she proved me wrong!
It only took a few days for Bingo to be bright again! We were able to wean her off formula and eradicate all the nasty stuff from her crop. And she’s since gained lots of weight and been able to reunite with Bobby (they are not paired.. yet. But we’d like to keep them together if possible)
Bingo isn’t ready to go into her forever home just yet, (as of 25/8) but is open for pre-adoption until she gets the green light when she’s gained enough weigh.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
