Buddy is a sweet and affectionate boy who loves nothing more than a gentle pat on the head from anyone willing to offer it. True to his name, he’s eager to be someone’s loyal best mate and will quickly steal your heart.
This handsome guy enjoys his daily walks and is still learning how to be polite on the lead. He isn’t reactive to other dogs, but he’s very keen to say hello, so he’ll need a confident owner to guide him and set some boundaries. He’s working on his manners, like learning that a quick sniff is enough and lingering too long isn’t always appreciated đź¤.
At first, Buddy was nervous around the children in his foster home (aged 5 and 8), but with time and patience he’s blossomed into a calm and gentle companion who now happily accepts their pats. He’s shown some prey drive toward wild bunnies on walks, so he’s not suitable for a home with cats or pocket pets.
Buddy previously lived with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a canine friend in his new home. He’s not the high-energy, ball-obsessed type you often see in kelpies – instead, he’s settled nicely into his foster home’s routine, looking forward to his regular walks and relaxing with his people.
Some of Buddy’s best qualities:
Sleeps soundly through the night in his crate with no fuss.
Rarely barks – just a little whimper now and then if he’s eager to come inside or knows it’s walk time.
Shows promise with recall and already responds to “heel” in the yard, so he could enjoy safe off-leash adventures with more practice.
Doesn’t jump up on people and loves to offer a friendly handshake.
Things his new family should know:
Buddy is still learning leash skills and can be a trip hazard if you’re unsteady on your feet.
He prefers riding in the front seat of the car, as he doesn’t travel comfortably in the back.
He’s a clever boy but has decided “sit” is simply not for him (yet!) – no treat or encouragement has swayed him so far. With time, patience, and consistency, he’ll get there.
Overall, Buddy is a gentle soul who will thrive with a patient and loving family willing to continue his training. Whoever adopts him will be very lucky – because Buddy isn’t just a name, it’s a promise. ❤️
