Meet Brock,
Brock goes by name names including The Brock, Brock Steady, Brock and Roll, Brockoli, Brock Choy and Brockolini. Brock is suitable for first time owners and would thrive in a calm home environment.
Sadly Brock’s story is something that we see far too often. Imagine this — you’re with your person, tail wagging, life is good. You walk side-by-side down to the gates of the Animal Care Facility… but then your lead is tied to the fence. You watch, confused, as your person walks away and doesn’t come back.
That’s exactly what happened to Brock. He was left there — alone and scared. One of our staff sat quietly with him, gently letting him know we were good people. After some patient reassurance, he finally allowed us to untie his lead and walk him up to the kennels.
Being abandoned this way meant we knew nothing about Brock — not his personality, his home life, or his history. We didn’t know how this traumatic start would shape him, and to be honest, at first it didn’t look promising either.
But Brock had other plans. He wasn’t going to let one inhumane act define his future. Slowly, he began to show us who he really is — and it turns out, he’s a big softie! Brock adores cuddles, loves playing with soft toys, and enjoys bouncing between people so that everyone gets a share of his affection and love. He’ll sit close to you (or on you), and gently place a paw on your knee as if to tell you that everything will be okay. He looks at you with admiration and truly makes you feel special.
He’s cuddly, gentle, and pure love wrapped in fur — the ultimate feel-good friend who will fill your life with warmth and sweetness.
Ideal Home: Brock is fine to live in either a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: Brock is open to meet kids of any age as long as they are dog savvy. Because of how Brock was left, he still has moments of timidity and uncertainty and we just want to ensure that any kids in the home are aware of his needs. He is also quite big, but he is gentle and calm in nature.
Brock is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is able to spend time in the yard on his own, but would also love to be inside with his new family too as he loves being around people and being close to the people he loves.
Furry Friends: Brock is dog selective but best to be the only dog in the home until he has settled into his new environment. He is able to be around other dogs, but he prefers dogs that are similar to him in terms of behaviour. Brock is a gentle giant who appreciates calm interactions. When other dogs get too much for him, he will go to his handler for reassurance and cuddles. He is very trainable though, and responds to his handler well and offers a sit to indicate when he's no longer in a playful mood. He's also very tolerant, even when the other dog is jumping all over him.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Brock would go living with/or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Brock would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Loose lead walking should also be incorporated into his training. Brock won't jump on you either but he does like to sit in your lap.
Brock knows his name and he also knows commands such as: sit and shake and he is also toilet trained. He is a smart boy and very trainable!
He is food motivated too, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea as he is very responsive to them. He always takes them gently from you, too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Brock has low-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep him healthy and happy. Brock likes to play with soft toys and he also likes to go for walks, socialise with people and enjoys personal play with his handlers or simply just being next to you - he'll happily do his own thing but checks in on you to make sure your needs are met, too.
Brock walks okay on lead - he does pull on the lead and can sometimes be stubborn on walks. He is best walked on either a harness or martingale.
Staff Comments: Brock is a gentle giant who loves affection and food. He would suit any home. He is a big, affectionate boy who just loves people. He is slightly sensitive, but is overall easy going and just a complete heart throb.

Medical notes
Heart Murmur: Brock has a grade 3 heart murmur, but don’t worry—it isn’t holding him back. He’s been checked by two vets who both agreed he was healthy enough to be desexed and is in good shape to find his forever home. At the moment, his murmur doesn’t require any medication or special care, though adopters should be aware that as he gets older, he may need treatment or medication. The great news is that Brock’s relaxed and easy-going personality means his heart is not under any extra strain right now, and he’s living life happily and comfortably.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C5 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
The adoption fee for cats covers F3 vaccination, health check, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
