About K2
K2, a handsome ginger tabby cat, was rescued from a local rental property along
with a colony of cats and kittens including his brother K3, a champagne ginger tabby.
They had all been living under the house and the new tenants had been kindly
feeding them. We suspect that they are all related and the result of having un-
desexed pets, which were left behind by the previous tenants.
Although they interacted when being fed by the tenants, they had limited handling
and had not known human affection before coming into care. We were delighted to
find that they took all of five minutes for each of them to decide that they loved it and
haven’t stopped purring since.
K2 is a clean cat, using his litter box correctly and gratefully eats every meal put in
front of him. He gets along with his brother K3 and the other kittens and cats and has
never shown any aggression towards any of them. He’s a sweet, chill guy who
loves a chin scritch, a belly rub (not too long though!) and a cuddle or two from his
carer and enjoys the company of his roommates.
His carer advises that his polite demeanour quickly disappears, however, when being transported to the Vet in a cat carrier, where he and his siblings have been heard using some impolite adult language!
K2 is the boldest of the two, has a squeaky little meow that demands food at
mealtimes and does a little tail shake to say hello. His potential adopter/s must bear
in mind that he will be shy to begin with as his first experience of living in a home as
a loved and cared for pet was with his carer.
We are confident that if his (or their) potential new family commit to spending time with him/them initially, playing with toys that get his/their attention, encouraging him/them with food treats, and pets and cuddles, he will quickly adapt. trust and bond with them.
It’s imperative that he has another cat for company as he has known no different and
feels secure with family around him. If you don’t have a cat, please consider taking
his brother K3 as well, as they will be good for each other with this impending move
from care. He/they will be quite scared initially.
K2 is desexed, fully vaccinated and has been wormed and flea treated. He will also
need to be an inside cat, as we believe it is in his best interests that he confine
himself and as per the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Victorian Code of
Practice for the Private Keeping of Cats, POCTAA’s recommended best practice is
that cats should be confined to the owners property from dusk until dawn and
preferably at all other times, for the protection of the cats welfare. Keeping cats
confined reduces the chances of them being hit by cars or involved in fights with
other cats or dogs, contracting diseases such as cat flu and feline AIDS from other
cats as well as protecting them from poisons, theft or trapping. It also reduces
predation by cats on wildlife. Cats are generally sedentary animals and can be
confined to the owners property at all times without a risk to their welfare providing
environmental needs are met (including exercise through play). A cat netted yard or
pen that are absolutely secure, could be considered a little while down the track. A
newly homed/moved cat should be contained for at least 3 months anyway, as they
often take off looking for their previous address.
If you are not on board with cat containment, then K2 (and K3) are not the cats for
you.
K2’s carer will be sending him off with toy balls and pom poms, a grooming
toothbrush, matatabi chew stick, treats toy and a cat music cd. If the boys are
adopted as a pair, she will include a covered litter box, scratching post, 2 dishes with
a placemat and a baby catnip plant and cat grass.
If you think that you can provide the perfect home for K2 where he will be loved and
cherished for the rest of his life, please send in your application for his carer’s
consideration. You will receive a response within 3 days of us receiving your
application. If K2’s carer has any further questions that will be addressed at that
time and arrangements made for a meet and greet where appropriate.
If the potential adopter was considering adopting the brothers, the adoption fee will
be $500 for both.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions.
