About Strudel
Strudel is a VIC. Very Important Cat.
Strudel came to us in December 2023 as a 7 week old kitten with his two brothers, Custard and xxxx. They passed away due to poor nutrition, exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke. We were devastated.
We rescued a large number of kittens and cats from a back yard breeder. The temperatures in QLD were in the high 30’s to low 40’s.
On intake we knew we had some hard times ahead.
Scottish folds and straights have some genetic mutations which if left untreated can become complicated.
For example, without proper nutrition they can suffer from dental issues, joint issues and stunted growth.
We went through hundreds of doses of antibiotics, anti inflammatories, medicated shampoo, eye drops & ear cleaner. Not to mention the number of dental procedures completed and grooming sessions.
We were bitten, scratched, peed on, pooped on, vomited on and generally speaking we have seen some pretty scared cats as they had minimal human interaction. A few launched at our faces and luckily we’ve avoided serious harm.
We have also lost a couple of them due to health issues. Unavoidable and as devastating as it has been we had to make a couple of very hard decisions.
What we didn’t see coming was bilateral luxating patella’s!!
Our vet was stunned! Cats rarely have luxating patella’s and definitely more rare is a pair of luxating patella’s.
As Strudel was extremely healthy at the time, we decided to take the chance and have a $6,000 surgery performed.
One of the two surgical procedures failed and our vet did a revision surgery and Strudel made a very good recovery.
This is where the hard part begins.
Finding him a forever home.
Strudel has recovered to the point now that he can go to a forever home.
He will have the potential to have arthritic flare ups and would be best suited to a home with no other animals so he isn’t chased around and over exerts himself.
He will need a lot of low places to hang out and a ramp to get up to the bed and lounge. He just loves to sleep right near you, and purrs so load you know he is happy.
Strudel will have a good life ahead, given the right maintenance plan.
He will need arthritis medication and some minor pain relief during colder seasons.

Now we know we can’t recoup his surgical fees, so his adoption fee is simply for admin costs and for some medication we will provide to you for the first few months.
Strudel may not be perfect - but he IS perfect.

These have been surgically corrected and strudel should now live a wonderful life.
We will provide 12 months of appropriate medication (if needed) and visits to OUR PREFERRED vet network at our cost for ONLY this condition.

**We will only contact suitable enquirers as we are all volunteers and have limited resources to contact everyone**
**We do adopt to Northern QLD & NSW, however we do not fly pets.
We require adopters to meet first therefore we do have a limitation on transport options.**

We aim to place each of our animals with the best family possible.
Our adoption process may seem a little complex, we ask a lot of questions. But there are reasons for this.
1. Our animals in care are like our children.
2. We want to match the best humans with the animals to ensure you are happy and our animals are happy.
3. We don't want animals to come back to us. We want their family to be forever.
So our adoption process begins with an application being completed.
Once we receive the application we will assess it on face value of the answers you have provided.
Once we can determine if you sound like a good fit, we will call you to chat a bit further.
This is when we will schedule a meet and greet with your potential new family member/s.
We may need you to have more than one meet, especially if you have other pet/s that need to be introduced or children and other human family members.
We will confer with our foster carer, and advise you as soon as possible if you were successful in your meet and greet.
Once we have confirmed your success, we will arrange for the paperwork to be completed including the adoption payment.
We allow our foster carers time to say goodbye to their foster babies, it can be hard for some to give them to their new homes and we recognise all the hard work and dedication they have put in to ensure that your new family member has been safe and is ready to go to their forever home.
We will keep in contact with you for 2 weeks during a "trial" adoption period. There are terms and conditions to be met and we will advise you of these.
Once the trial period has ended we will send you the paperwork for your new family member.
