Meet Basil,
Basil is a bright, bubbly boy with a whole lot of love to give! Young, cheerful, and full of beans, Basil is the kind of dog who will keep you smiling with his playful personality and happy-go-lucky nature. He’s clever too – his love of food makes training a breeze, and with a bit of puppy school and ongoing guidance, he’s sure to grow into his very best self.
Basil is adaptable and would fit in beautifully with just about any household. He’s gentle, independent, and wonderfully friendly – the sort of pup who enjoys both his own adventures and sharing time with people and other dogs. Confident, excitable, and engaging, Basil is a great match for active families or individuals who are ready to include him in their day-to-day life. Affectionate and fun-loving, Basil is ready to brighten your world with his lively spirit!
Ideal Home: Basil is fine to live in either a townhouse, standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: Basil is open to meet kids of any age. Although there is no age restriction, kids in the home should be dog savvy as he is young, loves to play and sometimes, although rare, may be a little shy at times.
Basil is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is independent and able to spend time in the yard on his own, but would also love to be inside with his new family too.
Furry Friends: Basil is open to meet other dogs. He is young, eager to interact and make friends - he loves playing with his siblings but would be best suited with another dog who gives him space and is happy to co-exist without the need for playing all the time.
As we cannot test in this environment, it is hard for us to say whether Basil would be ok to live with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Basil would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes should also be considered so that he can continue to learn manners when interacting and playing with other dogs.
With additional training and time to settle into a new routine, Basil could be the type of dog that you can take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Basil knows his name and he also knows commands such as sit and down. He is a smart boy, but still has moments of playfulness as he is still a puppy.
He is food motivated and is gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Basil, being young, has medium to high-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins a day to keep him healthy and happy. Basil likes to play with all toys - he'll play with anything really - he has a special love of soft toys. He also likes going for walks, social walks with other dogs and personal play with his handlers.
Basil walks well on lead, with little to no pulling. He is fine to be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Basil is sweet and affectionate. He is smart and a quick learner. He has come such a long way from where he was, to where he is now. Basil is still young and had a rough start to life. When he and his litter mates arrived at our facility, they were all heartbreakingly underweight and under socialised. Basil has grown into such a wonderful boy and we are so excited for him to find his new home.

Medical notes
Hind Dew Claws: This animal had their hind dew claws removed. Hind dew claw removal in dogs is a surgical procedure performed to prevent potential injuries. If the dew claw is only attached by skin (as is common), it's prone to getting caught on things and torn, causing pain and potential infection. Removal has a quick healing time but we bandage the area to ensure the site remains clean.
Weight: Alfred is still young and had a rough start to life. When he and his litter mates arrived at our facility, they were all heartbreakingly underweight — most likely due to not receiving proper nutrition in their previous home. Since then, we’ve been giving Alfred the care, food, and love needed to help him grow big and strong. Under our vet’s guidance, he has been steadily gaining weight, but it’s a gradual journey that will need to continue in his new home.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
