About Biffy
Meet Biffy – The Brave Little Explorer 🐾
Biffy may be small in size, but his heart is enormous. With his beautiful big blue eyes, calm and affectionate nature, and quiet, gentle personality, he instantly wins hearts. Biffy loves spending time close to his humans, curling up for cuddles, and quietly observing the world around him. He’s not demanding — just a soft, loving presence who thrives on gentle attention.
Biffy was born with spina bifida (also known as Manx cat syndrome), a condition sometimes seen in Manx cats where the spine doesn’t fully develop. In his case, it affects the nerves that control his tail. While this means he sometimes needs a little extra help to stay comfortable, it doesn’t slow him down or stop him from enjoying life to the fullest.
Ongoing management for Biffy is straightforward and easy to incorporate into daily life. His ideal home will:
Provide indoor-only living to keep him safe.
Feed him a soft food diet to make digestion easier.
Keep up with regular veterinary check-ups to monitor his condition.
Biffy is happiest in a calm, loving environment where he can feel secure. He adores gentle affection, soft beds, and quiet time with his favourite humans. Despite his medical needs, he is full of love and trust, and will reward his family with a lifetime of soft purrs, cuddles, and his quietly affectionate personality.
He has been through a lot in his young life, but he’s ready to begin his next chapter — one filled with warmth, comfort, and a family who will see his differences not as limitations, but as part of what makes him so incredibly special.
If you’d like to know more about our little Biffy, or think you could offer him the loving home he deserves, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d be happy to answer any questions and provide more information about him and his ongoing care.
Medical notes
Spina Bifida in Cats – Brief Overview
Spina bifida is a congenital (present at birth) condition where a cat’s spinal column does not develop fully, which can affect the spinal cord and nerves. It is most commonly seen in Manx or tailless cats, but can occur in others as well.
Possible effects include:
Weakness or mobility issues in the hind legs
Difficulty controlling bladder or bowel function
Constipation or the need for a special diet
Rarely, other spinal or nerve-related complications
Management:
Cats with spina bifida can live happy, comfortable lives with proper care:
Indoor-only living for safety
Soft food or stool softeners if needed
Regular veterinary check-ups to monitor health
Adaptations for mobility and litter use as required
Many cats with this condition are affectionate, playful, and loving companions, with manageable needs when their owners are aware and prepared.
