About Melinda
Hi! I’m Melinda and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR MELINDA
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/8AsrKzGMEE7Gxx1s8
NOTE: You are unable to meet Melinda until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Melinda in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• I like both friendly male and female dogs
• A gentle dog is the best housemate for me. But, I LOVE LOVE LOVE people, so I'm just as happy being an only dog getting all of your love and attention for myself
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent, including no gaps, holes or areas i could squeeze through to escape!)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• A family who promise to keep me well groomed and brush me regularly so I’m always looking and feeling my best
• Lots of love and attention
• I have previously lived with children (10 and up). We had limited contact, but I always behaved myself around them.
• I can be shy at first so I need a family who’ll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
• Doggy daycare and group socialisation classes would be highly beneficial for me.
• I appeared scared of cats when meeting them at the shelter however once my confidence around them grows I might be more inquisitive. If going to a home with a cat they must be dog savvy and we must be introduced slowly.
• SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
Things that I don’t want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
My best features:
• Very playful
• Wiggle butt
• Highly food motivated
• Happy to hang out with other friendly dogs
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• Love to snooze on the couch
• Well mannered
• I walk well on lead for an inexperienced doggo but having daily walks should help me improve my lead skills
• Exuberant & full of beans
• I LOVE toys, playing fetch and a game of tug-o-war
• Excitable and bouncy when meeting new people
Where I need to improve / Training required
• I will require full basic training as I've had no training experience yet
• I'm learning to walk on the lead at the shelter and am getting much better. I'm still a bit slow and fearful but with lots of practice I should soon look forward to a daily stroll around the neighbourhood
• As I have not been allowed inside before I am not housetrained yet
• I appear to be quiet vocal at times when left alone - a family who has a lot of time for me, allow me indoors and leave me with lots of mental enrichment when home alone is recommended
AN ADOPTION CAN'T BE APPROVED IF YOU HAVE CANNOT COME TO THE SHELTER TO MEET MELINDA IN PERSON.
ANY EXISTING DOGS AT HOME MUST COME TO THE SHELTER TO MEET MELINDA BEFORE AN ADOPTION CAN BE APPROVED
Medical notes
Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS), common in French Bulldogs.
Stenotic nares – where the nostrils are too small to allow adequate passage of air making breathing through the nose difficult.
Elongated and/or thickened soft palate – where the soft palate is too long and/or too thick. In these cases the soft palate is excessively long allowing it to sit within the opening of the trachea (windpipe) and thus obstructs normal airflow.
Surgery may be recommended in the future which will be the responsibility of the new owner.
