About Patty
**please note i'm not available at the shelter* i'm currently spending time with my foster family. Please contact adoptfromfoster@rspcaqld. Org. Au should you be interested in adopting me.
patty first came to the rspcas attention in november 2009 when she and her sibling susie were brought to the shelter by one of our inspectors as emergency boarding dogs while their owner was in hospital.
both dogs were morbidly obese suffering with the heat and from flea allergy and hotspots. They were terrified had difficulty walking due to their weight and could not walk on a lead.
they spent a month at the shelter as a part of the emergency boarding program before being returned to their owner. While at the shelter they learnt to walk on a lead and enjoyed a light exercise regime and were placed on a diet as well as other treatments for their skin conditions and they began to understand some of the good things that the world had to offer them.
on their return home their owner was advised that the girls must lose weight. A program was set up for the dogs that the owner felt he could manage and fortnightly weigh-ins were arranged.
for months an rspca inspector and an rspca staff member visited the girls taking them to the local vet clinic for weigh-ins but after almost a year of minimal weight loss their owner finally agreed to let an rspca staff member take the dogs into foster care and place them on a strict weight loss program.
on a strict diet of hills r/d (reduction diet) prescription food generously donated to their cause by hills and as much exercise as they could manage at each stage of their weight loss the girls began a new journey.
in their foster home it became clear that the girls had a very limited experience of the world. They bonded quickly and very strongly to their carer but were still very uneasy about life experiences that we often take for granted. They were still very unsure about walking on lead had no experience of travelling in a car aside from the rides to the vet that had been taking place for the last year they were scared of new people loud noises and uneasy around other animals.
patty is looking for a healthy fit but quiet home. She needs daily exercise to be happy and healthy. She also needs a patient and understanding family that will help to socialise her with different people animals and surroundings and understand that this is a huge new journey for her. She is a devoted and very affectionate dog who must be allowed indoors also as she does love to lie at your feet with you. She is happy to have another dog friend but a calm confident companion would be ideal to help her be the best girl she can be.
patty is a loving loyal and devoted dog.
