About Dusty
This sweet girl is Dusty. She’s a senior Great Dane (we think cross) searching for her perfect retirement home. She is a very happy soul and a delight to live with. It looks like she has a smile on her face when she looks at you and is always happy to fit into the routine without a fuss. She has a huge tail that does a big windmill showing her joyful nature. Dusty is currently living very harmoniously with another Great Dane. Living with another dog would be perfectly fine so long as the resident dog was respectful of her age and let her live peacefully. Don’t get me wrong, she gets her bounce on and is up for a play on occasion but she’s not as young as she used to be, so needs to be played with with care!
Dusty was indifferent to the cat she met in her current residence, taking it in her stride without missing a beat and so we assume she could easily live with another accommodating feline. She’s not met small children recently, but we believe she has lived with children previously.
Currently Dusty gets a walk every day, a couple of kms keep her pretty content and she’d take more or less dependent on your lifestyle. She loves to trot along with or without a friend with her and is working on recall via a long lead at this early stage.
Leash training is coming along well, she’s learning not to pull and walk nicely by your side. Learning to wait for all good things is also a new skill which she gets a gold start for her efforts and progress. We don’t believe Dusty has had a lot of socialising in her previous life and certainly not out on leash. Once again, she’s shown great progress when out on walks. She can still get very unsure, particularly of off leash dogs which she finds scary. However, generally as the walks progress and she sees more dogs, she relaxes. She’s been curious to meet a number of dogs once she’s felt safe and done that beautifully.
Dusty loves the car and is the perfect passenger, we just have to reminder her to jump in and out the car once we’re ready. She’s very enthusiastic to get in to get going!
In the time we’ve been taking care of Dusty, she’s not shown any signs whatsoever of being destructive nor suffering any separation anxiety. She’s happy to wonder outside by herself for a little sunshine or fresh air and we’re also happy to leave her unattended inside alone. She makes use of the multiple bed options in the home including one in a crate. She did this by choice and will hop in if asked, with no fuss when the door is closed for her to have some quite time. She has spent overnight contently in the crate with no rush to come out in the morning if she’s still snoozing. Dusty will pee when taken out, eats anything and toilets in the areas we ask her to.
Easiest dog in the world to have around right! Ok let me find a shortcoming so you believe she is real… she snores… a lot… pretty loud!
Dusty is a loving sweet sweet girl and whilst we haven’t indulged her (yet), she has asked and would love nothing more than to join you on the couch for cuddles.
If you’re after a soft loving dog to join your home, Dusty may well be the most amazing companion you’ll find.
