About Mako & Buddy
Hi! We’re Mako and Buddy and we’re looking for a new family to call our own.
Mako 14 years 4 months
Buddy 7 years 10 months
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR MAKO & BUDDY
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/7byybY5hXpZtkXfL6
NOTE: You are unable to meet both the boys until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet both in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• The first thing you need to know about us is that we have lived in the same house and never left before now. We have had little to no life experience.
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with our family and not left outside 24/7 with no interaction.
• A cat may be ok with a slow introduction.
• We like both friendly male and female dogs
• Secure Fencing and gates
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep our teeth clean
• Lots of love and attention
• A quiet & mature family/household - this is what we are used too. Mako is 14.5 and needs a quiet mature home where he won’t be forced for attention and will understand he may be sensitive in regards to his body.
• Mako is not very fond of being picked up and he may give a little growl when you do it but once he knows you he is happy for you to briefly pick him up, however he really isn't a lap dog so he's happy to just wander around and find his own space to have a snooze.
• We both enjoy the company of other dogs our own size but are NOT keen on bigger dogs
• Short regular walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Buddy can be shy at first so will need a family who’ll allow him to grow in confidence in his own time
• “A family that will love and care for me during my twilight years” – Mako
• We both toilet when inside, so training and/or regular trips outside is mandatory or accidents will happen.
• No children under 12 we have both come from a mature older home. Buddy spooks easily and Mako is an old man that will not tolerate being manhandled.
My best features:
• Happy to hang out with other friendly dogs that are calm natured and not going to be jumping on us.
• We love attention & head scratches, Mako will push Buddy out of the way for it.
Where I need to improve / Training required:
• We are shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing us to settle in and continue on with our socialization
• We appear to be a bit vocal at times when left alone - a family who has a lot of time for us, allow us indoors and leave us with lots of mental enrichment when home alone is recommended
• Buddy can be quite timid in new situations such as entering a building/home. He MUST have a family who'll allow me inside so he can see it isn't a scary place and to allow his confidence to grow.
• We both have just lived in one house and backyard, we don’t know much about the world and have limited training. We don’t know what a lead is and don’t like walking with them or having things on our necks or harnesses.
Medical notes
Mako has some age related conditions identified by our vet. Grade 3 heart murmur, non symptomatic and not on any medication at this stage.
Dental disease to be monitored, dental is not required at this stage.
Cataracts, almost completely blind.
Arthritis, to be managed with pain medication as needed.
