Hey there, I’m Hendrix, your soon-to-be best buddy and personal cheer squad! I’m 5½ years young, rocking a sleek black coat with a very stylish white smudge on my nose (I like to think of it as my signature look... every superstar needs one, am I right?). I’m all about making people smile. When you walk in the door, I’ll be there with my tail wagging at full speed, ready to shower you with love and enthusiasm. Honestly, I just can’t help myself *blush*, life’s too short not to be excited about your favourite humans! Now, let’s talk food. I love food. Seriously, if you’ve got BBQ chicken, we’re basically soulmates already. I also think toys are the best invention ever; squeaky, bouncy, chewy, you name it, I’m here for it! But don’t worry, I’m not all go-go-go. When playtime is done, I switch into world-class snuggler mode. I adore curling up with my humans, leaning in close, and giving out all the love I’ve got (spoiler: it’s a lot).
For the past month or so I’ve been living with a lovely foster family and they have able to get to know a lot more about me. So here’s a bit of an update:
I absolutely love my walks and get very excited when I see my harness. I walk well on leash and even though I might occasionally walk in front, I now respond to the commands “come” and “good boy” (and I really AM a good boy). One of my fave things to do on walks is stop and sniff. I also respond well to reward-based training which helps me remain calm when seeing other dogs, especially if they appear suddenly without warning – that can be a bit scary!
My humans are very pleased to report that my toilet training is progressing really well – yay, go me! I am pretty relaxed with small people, as long as they are over the age of 6 or so. Pro tip: the way to my heart is with gentle pats and I will let you know if I want you to keep them coming.
I am now comfortable with stairs and have become quite good at them in fact. When I went into my foster home I was quite anxious when left alone or at night but I have improved significantly! I no longer cry overnight (as long as a light is left on - don’t judge me!) and I settle quickly when left alone for 6-7 hours as long as I have yard access for toileting. The foster humans have some kind of surveillance setup on me and say when they look at it, I ‘appear relaxed on camera, and mostly snoozing’ (cancel the DNA test – I’m definitely a greyhound!). They have seen no signs of resource guarding or sleep startle.
I enjoy cuddles, curling up beside you, and resting my nose on your lap. I enjoy being nearby while you cook dinner and have heard the humans use the words ‘affectionate’ and ‘curious’ in my vicinity (which I’ll happily accept). I’m a bit obsessed with squeaky toys but can destroy them quickly and I love doing zoomies in the courtyard before going to bed.
Overall I am a sweet, joyful boy with a big personality and plenty of love to give. I could live with another dog (hound or medium to large dog friend). Although I have been told I’m a little full-on with my initial greetings, I would be fine with a calmer and tolerant friend, otherwise, but would also fine to live as an only dog (where I would get all the attention).
So, if you’re looking for a handsome boy who brings joy, fun, cuddles, and maybe a little BBQ chicken enthusiasm to your life… well, I think we should meet!
