About Bruce 🌭
🐾 Meet Bruce – a clever Dachshund who will steal your bed🐾
Bruce is a sooky, handsome dachshund who’s spent his time in foster engaged in training and refining his manners. Affectionate and eager to please, Bruce is happiest snuggled up with his humans and he’s not picky, he’ll make sure everyone in the house gets their fair share of cuddles! He loves curling up under the covers at night and snoozing in sunny spots around the house in between a bit of backyard fun (especially chasing lizards, though they always seem to get away!).
🏠 Bruce’s Ideal Home 🏠
Bruce is at his heart a people dog and will spend as much time with you as he is allowed. Humans who will allow him to fully integrate with the hustle and bustle of their home is a must, he’s not an “outside only” dog. Since coming into foster he has made big progress working through separation anxiety and is now comfortable to bed down and snooze while you’re out and about for 4-5 hour stretches. He would still prefer a family who won’t leave him alone this long every day though.
Bruce is not suited to apartment life and requires a home with a secure backyard, dashies are very good at exploiting gaps under fences and gates. When it comes to humans, he’s highly adaptable (that’s our way of saying he’s a bit of a tart for attention) and suits life with all ages from kids to adults.
⚡Energy Level & Training Achievements ⚡
Bruce is a great mix of active and chill, he knows how to read the room and settle in when everyone else is. He loves long walks but is continuing to work on reactivity around other dogs he sees when out and about. For this reason, dog parks and on leash greetings with unknown dogs are not on the menu for him, they’re quite stressful. While in foster Bruce has been taking part in regular group obedience classes and has even progressed to second class proving that is he very capable of working around other dogs while making good choices in a managed and focused setting. His perfect home will be interested in continuing this kind of activity with him, it’s a fantastic way to create a strong and loving bond with him as well as furthering his life skills.
👧 Suitability to Children 👧
Bruce currently lives with two teenagers and enjoys their company. He’s a people dog at heart, whatever your age – he’s not checking IDs for date of birth info 😉.
🐶 Suitability to Other Animals🐱
True to his breed Bruce has an active chase drive, while that’s great for a game of catch it’s not a match for cats and pocket pets. Bruce arrived in care with another dashie he lived with but it quickly became apparent that it was not a harmonious match. We have learnt that he is most happy as a solo dog in the home, soaking up all the attention just for him.
It would take a very dedicated home to achieve a successful integration with a resident calm and size matched dog. If you think you are that home, please give us detailed information on your experiences with integrating dogs who are challenging in this way, the methods you would employ to set them up for success and an honest evaluation of your threshold for this type of behavioral management.
