About Burly
Meet Burly a big, beautiful and sweet natured boy. Extremely affectionate with people, he loves nothing more than sitting next to you being patted all day.
Burly may have been a hippo in a previous life because he is completely obsessed with water, if his pool is full he will be sitting in it. He is super friendly towards anyone he meets and is VERY strong on the lead. This has improved a bit in foster care but it will be something to work on together, particularly when going through door ways and gates. When it comes to treats he's the perfect gentleman taking them gently when offered.
đĄ My ideal home
As he is strong on the leash his ideal home would be with someone with large dog or breed experience. He does feel the heat therefore access inside the house too cool down in summer months is a must (he said to say he also wants a private pool). Burly thrives on the company and affection of humans so a home that can include him as much as possible would make his heart sing. He's still getting used to car rides and is prone to stress panting but with experience this will improve and the joy of accompanying you somewhere will always override any trepidation he has. Burly will require a home with secure fencing, our man can have an adventurous spirit and we know he's got the strength and smarts to test out potential escape points.
âĄMy energy level
Burly would quite happily lounge around with you all day but he loves to go outside to explore and play. Burly came into care heartworm positive so has been on activity restrictions during treatment (and tolerated it very well). Once given his final all clear we know he will enjoy a good thump around everyday.
đ¶ My suitability to children
Burly absolutely does not know his size, he can be a bit of a bulldozer rolling onto his back constantly for a pat and he often does this into your legs which could easily knock younger or small children over. He would suit confident teens 13 and up, there's no aggression in any way but can be boisterous. Home with adults who have mobility issues on unstable footing should also keep this in mind.
đ¶đ± My suitability to other cats or dogs
He is untested with cats and does love to chase so probably not a good idea given his size. While in foster he has met a lot of different dogs of all sizes and ages and has been happy to welcome them all into his social circle.
If you like 'em big and chonky like we do consider welcoming this big hunk of beef into your life. Apply to adopt Burly and you'll never be lonely again, we know that much!

We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two-week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
