About Rikki
Rikki has come into care unsure of his place in the world, most likely because of his breed and natural intelligence it was assumed he could work things out on his own. Leaving him guessing if he was doing what was wanted of him. In spite of this Rikki is a beautiful, well mannered boy.
With routine, structure and training Rikki is starting to thrive and show more of the best boy he can be.
He already has some nice skills and knows 'sit', 'drop', 'wait' and 'come'.
He's working on 'place' and has it for waiting to be released to eat at mealtimes & almost for waiting while his foster Mum gets ready for a training session.
He generally stays out of the kitchen and only needs a gentle reminder when he does wander in.
He ignores the dogs barking behind the fence and the ones around the neighbourhood. He is good with the toddler when they come to visit, just gives them a quick 'hello' sniff and then doesn't bother them.
He is NOT a cat friendly dog and needs a cat/small furry pet free home. And not a fan of the mailman. He does get along with his older foster fur sister.
Rikki has been working on his lead skills with his foster Mum in the backyard and hasn't yet progressed to using these skills in the outside world.
He is treat motivated and is loving being given confirmation and told 'yes' when he gets something right. He is soaking up the love and affection. He can be a bit cheeky and push/nose for a treat or pats.
Rikki likes company and needs a secure yard. He is not a dog to be left in the backyard on his own as he can jump 1.8m high fencing. He really enjoys being a dog that can hang out with you inside or outside and is okay with being at home in a secure area with company if you can't be home.
With an understanding & knowldege of his breed, love and affection, ongoing training Rikki will be the wonderful dog he can be and an amazing loyal and loving companion. If you have any further questions and would like to meet her, please reach out to the team.
