We at Home2Home believe everyone deserves the joy that cat guardianship brings! We love seeing wonderful cats matched with loving adopters, and we don’t want adoption fees to be a barrier to you bringing a loving cat into your heart and home. So if Mushroom sounds like the cat for you, we ask you to nominate your adoption fee amount. There is no minimum or maximum amount required, and all adoption fees continue to fund PetRescue’s life-saving programs that support pets and people!

Mushroom is a loving and independent cat with a gentle spirit and a truly one-of-a-kind personality. She’s affectionate in her own special way — weaving through your ankles to say hello, bopping her head on your feet when you’re sitting down and jumping up onto your lap to enjoy a luxurious ‘massage’ with her favourite brush While she’s not a fan of being picked up, she loves being in your company and will choose to be around you when she’s given space to connect on her terms. She’s low-maintenance, house-trained, and happiest when her days include a mix of quiet companionship and a little solo adventuring.

Mushroom’s ideal home is calm, stable, and pet-free. She has lived with other animals before, but it’s clear she’s at her best when she has the house — and your attention — all to herself. Her playful side comes out when she brings you her much-loved ribbon toys, and climbs up scratching poles, but mostly she enjoys quiet moments, bird-watching from her catio, or snoozing in sunny corners. She takes her time warming up to new people, preferring to sit back and observe until she’s comfortable — but once that trust is earned, she’s all in with affection.

One thing Mushroom absolutely adores is safe outdoor access. She’s lived with a secure cat enclosure in every home she’s had, and it's made a huge difference to her happiness. A closed-in verandah, balcony, or cat run would make her feel right at home. She’s best suited to an adult household (or one with older, calm children) and would thrive with someone who understands cats and respects their need for autonomy.

Rehoming Mushroom has been a very difficult and emotional decision for her current guardians. She has been with her person since she was a kitten and is deeply loved. Unfortunately, after more than a year of trying to integrate two adult female cats, it’s clear that Mushroom is not coping in the shared space. Her well-being is the top priority, and it’s become evident that she needs a quieter, pet-free environment where she can truly relax and be herself. She’s a special cat with a huge heart and lots of love to give — she just needs the right home to bring out her best.
