Meet Kuro,
Looking for a friendly, easygoing dog who fits right into almost any lifestyle? Kuro might be the one for you!
This gentle, sensitive boy is as adaptable as they come - whether you’re a first-time dog owner or someone with plenty of experience, Kuro is ready to be part of your world. He’s happy to join an active family for walks and playtime, but he doesn’t need endless hours of exercise to feel content. Think of him as the perfect mix of fun-loving and laid-back!
Kuro is smart, social, and always up for making new friends. He’s curious and playful, with a soft, sweet nature that makes him easy to love. Whether he’s out exploring or snuggled up enjoying your company, he’ll bring a warm, loving presence to your home.
If you’ve ever dreamed of sharing your life with a Labrador but want an approachable, beginner-friendly experience, Kuro is the perfect dog to start that journey.
Ideal Home: Kuro is fine to live in either a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: Kuro is open to meet kids of any age - there is no age restriction.
Kuro is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety. He is independent and able to spend time in the yard on his own but would also love to be inside with his new family too.
Furry Friends: Kuro is best to be the only dog in the home for now. During his dog assessment he was eager to make friends but became very unsure and uneasy when approached by the other dog. He refused interaction but still seemed to want to get to know the dog. We feel that with socialisation training Kuro would be able to learning skills to assist him with this - this should be explored once adopted.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Kuro would go living with, or meeting, cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Kuro would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes with other dogs should be explored so that Kuro can learn how to interact with other dogs and raise his confidence.
Kuro is still learning his name but he knows commands such as: sit, drop, bed, and he is also learning how to roll over. Kuro is very trainable.
He is food motivated and is normally gentle when taking treats from you - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Kuro has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him healthy and happy. Kuro likes to play with toys when they're in motion but loses interest when they stop moving. He also likes going for walks, personal play with his handlers and training sessions.
Kuro walks well on lead, and is learning how to loose lead walk, too but he can get excited whilst out on a walk. He is best to be walked on either a harness or halti.
Staff Comments: Kuro is a very sweet and affectionate boy who would be great for any home and family. He's a lovely boy who is the right amount of everything. If you're wanting to get Labrador experience, Kuro would be the perfect dog for you!

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
