About Zac
We would like to take a moment to introduce you to Zac, a beautiful little man who has his whole life ahead of him but has some special requirements.
Zac is a 1 year and 5-month-old Chihuahua x Mini Foxie.
Zac is a Chihuahua who came from a horrible hoarding situation a few months ago, 22 dogs were needing help, and Paw Prints Canine Rescue was blessed with being able to help four of them.
Zac is sweet cheeky loving food obsessed ZOOMIE loving boy, BUT he does have some quirks and needs a special person or people to offer a forever home.
Let me say upfront there is not a mean bond in his body he is very sweet and loving but he is yet to be completely comfortable with touch in saying this he will take treats off strangers he will come up and sniff and lick a stranger hand.
Zac will take time to settle. However, you will see daily steeps that show he is settling in and starting to enjoy life and will show you with his behaviour.
Zac will come if his carer calls him, he really has good recall, he also takes food out of his carers hand and will always give his carers hand a sniff and lick whenever offered and lately he will sit next to them on the couch just touching
Zac has been known to jump up on her back with his front paws and sniff and play in his carers hair, he has started to jump up with his front feet on his carer legs when working from home, his carer can touch his nose and face
Zac will need a safe home where they will respect his boundaries and understand that it will take time for him to ask you to touch him and be happy with that - but knowing that he is a happy boy who loves life and just needs a person / family who will let hm grow.
Just about each day, he takes a step forward and does something new or allows more contact/touch
His new home will need to be patient as this didn't happen overnight this has taken months to get to this stage but we know what works for him and his new home will need to follow the rescue advice to keep him going in the right direction.
A big must for his new home will be a friend of similar size who loves to play and a space that Zac can feel safe in. There are no crates as he needs a space where he does have a way out as being confined really scares him .
Zac does require a safe place when going to a new home and when he came into care he chose a soft fluffy bed that was under the table (our carer was able to put a few panels around the area so he could come and go as he wanted to explore or was overwhelmed. (An open crate for a safe zone would also work.
Zac does not need this space now and happily spends his days with everyone either in the office while his carer works from home or on the couch at night watching TV .
The rescue does not believe that Zac will be a dog that will enjoy dog walks or car rides etc and would love a life where he is happy at home inside and with outside access doing zoomies stashing toys in his bed or napping the day away while you work from home.
He is good with all size dogs, but in true Chihuahua style, he does like to bark and tell the big mastiff off that lives in the house, so we do think a smaller breed would be better.
He is fine with kids but would need as a kid who understands he will take time to settle and not to be picked up and carried around.
Zac is toilet trained, but when moving to a new home, we will revert back for a period of having accidents. Once comfortable, he will go outside to the toilet, and if you need to leave to go out, he is ok to just wait till you come home.
The way to his heart and to earn his trust is food and patience and giving him space but he does only need a few minutes multiple times a day to work with him (offering food/bribes) before he will start to feel safe.
If you have a big heart and think you can offer this very special boy a forever home because he deserves the world please apply, I promise he is so worth it and makes anyone who knows him smile with his cheeky personality.

Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
