About Birdie
Birdie (Sheepadoodle):
- Birdie is energetic, athletic (ie 20kg of lean muscle!), cuddly, playful, enthusiastic, loving and incredibly loyal. She bonds very tightly to her people and can be a little aloof with strangers, although will willingly accept pats.
- Her gorgeous, single coat can grow out quite long like an old English sheepdog, is very brushable and surprisingly easy to care for. She is extremely low / non shedding. She has minimal ‘doggy smell’ despite her ‘outdoorsy’ personality 😂 Her coat has been clipped fairly short for ease of cleaning / maintenance due to her love of the sandpit etc.
- She adores swimming - whether it be in a pool, the beach or even the fish pond (be warned 😂).
- She really enjoys the company and romping / playing with similar or larger sized dogs, although generally benefits from slow introductions as she can be a little nervous initially.
- She can be bossy / dominant with younger or smaller dogs; particularly around high value objects.
- She adores the household children, but as a herding breed, can get over excited with younger children running around chaotically and attempt to herd them.
- She can be bouncy when excited and so better suited to older / teen children - to avoid the risk of accidentally knocking little ones over in her enthusiasm.
- She loves to exercise with you, and can hike for kms. Would love a very active person / couple / family. Would potentially enjoy a jogging / biking buddy (with some more training). Needs more work on loose lead walking and can get yippy / bouncy / excited if another dog is barking from behind a fence - but good at ignoring most dogs otherwise.
- She is food OBSESSED which makes training straightforward. She will do anything for food and is extremely smart! But coming from an environment where she has had to compete with many others and was very very hungry, she can be protective of her food or treats and may bark at other dogs who approach while she is eating. She has not shown any guarding behaviours towards her human family and will sit and wait for her food to be placed down and wait to eat when asked.
- She is crate trained, sleeps inside in her crate beautifully overnight without a peep and no messes. Will settle in the crate for reasonable periods in the day when out or when necessary for some ‘time out’.
- She can be selectively deaf, and there has been a suggestion of some minor impairment, but she can definitely hear, when she wishes to!
- Birdie is essentially a stunning, loving but also stubborn and wilful working breed naughty teenager at present. Despite the teddy bear appearance she is not a fluffy toy for the faint-hearted; but rather has huge potential for someone willing to engage her active brain with training, keep her well exercised and help her to become the best she can be.
- Her ideal family would be very active, have prior dog experience, ideally with working breeds, preferably with a similar sized playful dog (no smalls), be willing to dedicate time to training and exercise and able provide her clear boundaries - she desperately wants to please!
- She is fully vaccinated, desexed with no other noted health concerns. She has no dietary restrictions or allergies.
